Stupid Guest Tricks

OK...so if you've seen the pics, you know that I have a two-year-old. I am happy to report that he is quickly becoming Disney and Pixar obsessed....most notably with the movies Toy Story and Cars. And we all know there are certain things in these movies that are for adults and not children; that being said.....

My hubby and I were watching Cars the other day with the baby (toddler...whatever) and we came to the scene were Mia and Tia are introducing themselves. Now, I had already caught the double entendre, but (obviously) hubby hadn't.....as the two girls flash their headlights, I start laughing uncontrollably (I was just in a giggly mood). My husband looks at me with a "What?!?" look on his face. I try to get out "they're....flashing *giggle*....get it....flashing???" The look on his face was priceless! He had NO CLUE that part was in the movie. As they say, cartoons were originally for adults, not children.

Sorry if the story bored you, just thought it was hilarious on my end. (Now I go around saying "I'm Mia. I'm Tia. We're your biggest fans!" :D :)


On another note, the baby can now say Mickey Mouse in sign language and says a rough "Buzz-Buzz" (who is his favorite).

Are you teaching him the baby sign language (signwithyourbaby.com) or full ASL? We taught my daughter the baby version, by 3 years old she was finger spelling and using some proper ASL. WE have a friend who is profoundly deaf, and he loves to chatter with my daughter in ASL. It has given her a huge head start with languages. as well as passable Spanish, my 7 year old is now learning Cantonese from a classmate, and apparently her diction is fantastic, she apparently speaks the few words she knows with no Canadian accent !

Learning sign language as an infant really prepares kids to sponge up a third or fourth language. The tough language is English, as that is the second language, ASL is the first. I wish I could sign like her. I find myself eavesdropping on ASL conversations in order to see how much I can follow. If they are signing slowly enough I can follow them.

Oh, and an interesting fact;

The voice of Tia (Elissa Knight) is also the voice of EVE from WALL-E.

Delsdad - we are only teaching him a few things here and there right now. Like Mickey Mouse, Duck (for Donald, obviously), thank-you, mother and father. I am partially deaf, my grandfather was totally deaf, my great-grandmother was totally deaf, and my middle child (my other son) has some hearing loss. So, obviously, it runs in the family. So far, the little one doesn't seem to have any loss (we caught DS9 by 2), but I like that he uses some ASL. I've started the alphabet with him, but he hasn't caught on just yet.

Thank you for sharing about your daughter! I love hearing that she is so adept! (these are conversations I like having via forums rather than the nastiest of other sites)

I should really learn ASL, it would be helpful at work.

Laso, there are actually some really great Internet sites that show you the movements....just Google "ASL" and learn one or two a day. :)

Thank you is one of the easiest.....it's kinda like blowing a kiss, but you put your hand on your chin (watch Blue's Clues).

thats good Info on the ASL thing, I am going to have to try that, could come in handy!!!

In my family, we tend to read lips rather than sign, but I thought ASL would be good for the toddler because he's over 2 but doesn't really talk. He uses a lot of gestures, so we figured "what the hell?" (he probably doesn't talk very much 'cause he has a mouthy mommy and an older brother and sister to talk for him! :) )

We found the handiest ones included milk, more, hungry, mommy, daddy, yes, no and toilet. Especially since it allows us to discretely ask if she needs to use the bathroom from across the room!
