In Bad Taste ( IMHO )

I was working the Concourse TTC Monorail station the other day and noticed that they have been doing more repainting their. They first shocked us by painting the station retainer walls a light lavender color... now.. at the concourse they have decided to paint the central tower purple ( yes the same shade as the former train ) and the cieling they did a test strip of a purple with a lighter purple "racing stripe" down the center.

I think that Disney is going to regret this color change. Monorail Pilots are sensitive to these things...

Could this be someones well meaning, but poorly executed idea of a tribute? You'd think they might consult with a few pilots before doing something like this.

would the CM have input on something like that?

or perhaps they are painting it that color, for later use in some sort of memoral or dedication that will be done in the near future?

Maybe this was planned 5 years ago and they finally got the budget for the paint.

I know, I know...I will be hated for this but don't you folks think it is about time to move on. A color is just a color it doesn't have any direct responsibility for the accident and it is a primary color at Disney (look around if you don't believe me).

It was a terrible tragedy, yes! It doesn't mean that a color has to be permanently and completely banned just because of an association that one group of people make. They took the unnecessary step of not reusing it on the monorails themselves and that was very nice and a respectful reaction. To say that nothing should ever be the color purple again is a bit over the top. JMHO

Possibly one has to be a part of Disney to actually understand the painful emotions purple still evokes.

Please don't use that argument. it insults and degrades the feelings of just about everyone.

and if you think about it, you are saying that his family cannot possibly understand because they didn't work for (fill in a company) in this case Disney.

I have lost many co-workers during my carreer, and each and every time it affects us the same way. Be it by accidents, combat, or a terrible and losing battle with cancer, the feelings we have are the same.

Over the years I have had to attend the funerals or memoral services of no less than six people that I have worked with, and it dosn't get easier with each one. I was unable to attend services for a few more.

The fact that a young man lost his life in service to others is a very very sad situation, but to imply that others cannot possibly feel sadness and empathy to his family because they don't work for the company is simply not true.

Forgive me for saying this, but it's just a color. I mean what? Is Disney just suppose to stop using the color purple?

I would think that painting the Concourse purple would be an honor.

I'm with Honda and Pirate.

Don't tell Daisy Duck to pick a new favorite color - her colors are pink and purple and they will always be pink and purple. Is she gonna have to change the ruffles on her dress and get new hair bows? Will Minnie have for forgo her lavender formal? And oh my, I guess you are glad her home in Toontown is to be demolished - plenty of purple in there!

We should not hide it away and try to forget about it.

My dept has recently experienced a loss too, it crushed me to hear the news. But does that mean we should nix her "friend" from making any appearance? I think the best tribute to anyone who is gone is to keep living as vibrantly as we can and do it in their honor.
