He died today at 79 of stomach cancer.

Interesting side note: Roy E. follows Walt, Lilly, Roy O. and Edna in dying in the month of December.

It was Roy's dream to create the Animal Kingdom and Kilimanjaro Safari. That was his baby. It was after riding with a safari driver and asking that Cast Member the one thing the attraction needed most that suddenly there was an explosion of the number of animals to be seen.

Hell of a sailor. He owned the TransPac.

One story was he was so disgusted with the conditions of the harbor in Honolulu, he showed up at the Governor's home one morning and told her off.

Well, Roy is survived by children and grandchildren, all of whom are surnamed Disney, but yes, she is the last well-known member of the family remaining, and also likely the last one to be involved (even somewhat) with the affairs of The Walt Disney Company and Affiliated Companies.

In memorium, all Company (not American) Flags at The Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, Calif., as well as at Walt Disney Parks and Resorts sites worldwide, will be lowered to half-mast effective immediately through 24 December.

The Disney family has requested donations to the California International Sailing Association (CISA) in lieu of flowers. Donations should be notated as being for the Roy Disney Memorial, and should be sent to the following address:

2812 Canon Street
San Diego, California 92106-2742
