For anyone who dines in Celebration, you may want to beware: Market Street Cafe (former Max's) was shut down by the Health Dept. today for live roaches in two areas, among other violations. Here is the report:

I'm glad I haven't eaten there in a while.

The Chicken Dinner Restaurant at Knott's gets warnings all the time for roaches, and once somebody got sick from food poisoning there. The restaurant had to pay an insultingly low fine. I often say that they aren't really selling fried chicken in there, they raise mutant roaches that resemble chickens. Cordelia Knott would be appalled.

At least the roaches weren't dead. You know, like a canary in a coal mine.

So many people out here rave about that place. I think it is revolting. Greasy chicken and limp rhubarb. I haven't eaten there in years, and when my family wants to go there, I just wait for 'em outside. I have a nephew who is a vegetarian, and they have no menu choices for him.

Even if they did have menu choices for vegetarians, I wouldn't eat there. I still remember the time when I worked at Knott's when a guest asked where there was "safe food" for her kids to eat. I asked for clarification, and she said no fast food, etc.--salads and stuff. I steered her to the family-style restaurants. I was this close to telling her there is no safe food in the park, and if you need any further proof, there's the employee lunchrooms.

We've thought that spot had been headed downhill for some time now. No great loss.
Especially since the new Thai restaurant just up Market Street is so good! I'd give it two thumbs up ... if hornbills had thumbs.
