The only episode I ever saw of his show was an outtake when a topless stripper-gram knocked on the door of the set. I honestly thought he was long dead.

I remember him mostly from being a regular on the panels of To Tell the Truth and What's My Line -- he was always very funny. RIP Soupy.

I remember him mostly from "The New Soupy Sales Show" which was a revival of the old show in '78.

It was that show and the Muppet show that helped my first Alice Cooper album. My mom figure if Alice had been on both of those, he must be ok.

White Fang....

I remember watching every episode, waiting for white fang!

He was the one that did the "little green pieces of paper" trick, and some kids actually did it.

he supposedly got in trouble for that.

RIP soupy, ya made me laugh a lot.

I think that all that laughing is good for you! ;)
RIP Soupy, and Heaven will be a much funnier place when you're there :)

"I love to get a pie in the face...." SPLAT!

I remember hearing he did an obscene gesture on air, that is what got him in trouble.

Yeah, White Fang--both Soupy and Shrimpenstein had off-camera, furry arm only on camera buddies; Shrimpenstein's was called It.

Yeah, I watched the original here in California. Practically all my childhood icons are gone--I haven't been able to get a line on Sheriff John Hovic, though. Anyone happen to know if he's still with us? Searches turn up nothing.

Try searching on "John Rovick".

As of a year ago, he was alive, 88, and living in Boise, Idaho.

Nice guy. Had the same orthopedic surgeon as my father and we met in the waiting room a couple of times.

I can't find it on my computer right now, but I once designed a display typeface made up of rifles and revolvers that I named "Serif John" in his honor.
