A few notable Stupid Guest Tricks

Post by Monorail_Red » Mon Sep 28, 2009 5:01 pm

So I was in the World for another wonderful trip over the weekend and I encountered a few Stupid Guest Tricks worth mentioning.

SGT#1: (Thursday) Disney’s Magical Express will not go through the overhead bins to take your carry-on items to your room.

Well I can’t call it a Stupid Guest Trick because it was a grandmother with her grand kids who probably didn’t know how the system worked…but I did get a kick out of it. They had the DME tags on their carry-on bags! But being the CM material that I am, I made sure that they did not leave their carry-ons behind!

SGT #2 (Thursday): Character dining is only for those who are eating at the restaurant.

Thursday afternoon I had a reservation at Garden Grill as it was my sister's birthday. When it was time to leave, there were people coming up on the rotating part of the restaurant to take pictures with Chip & Dale…interrupting them while they were visiting other tables.

Perhaps the SG didn't know, but still - those of you who know Garden Grill know that the walking around can be a bit tight. The SG was bringing her kids up on the rotating part of the restaurant, walking right past the CM's asking them if they had a dinner reservation. The character attendant on duty had trouble getting up there due to the jam that the SG's caused. Somehow a CM was able to get up there and break up the chaos!

SGT #3 (Saturday): The floor is designed for a SG’s weight, not the ceiling.

So I’m onboard Monorail Black headed towards MK. From the Contemporary to the TTC, it was standing room only. There were lots of (big) kids in the car with us. They decided it would be fun to hang from the ceiling of the Monorail. In the station I thought nothing of it, but when we started moving I got concerned. I had no doubt that the ceiling and handrails would hold the weight…but while accelerating and breaking…the kids are jumping from handrail to handrail, and you could feel the car rocking because of it. I thought for a minute it may cause a beam contact, then I figured it is very unlikely. You would need a lot more shifting weight for the air ride system to fail to compensate for the change.

SGT #4 (Sunday): Pick up your own trash!

I was grabbing a quick bite to eat at the Contempo Cafe before I headed back off to MCO to fly home. So I sat down to eat my lunch, and across the food court I saw three tables pushed together. It looked like one big family with several little kids, parents, and grandparents. I thought nothing of it at the time. I just noticed that there was a lot of trash on the table. About 5min later I notice that they are gone and they left all their trash behind! Trays, containers, wrappers, beer bottles, and pages from the kids' coloring books. I mean it's one thing if you forget one piece of trash or two, but to leave everything behind and make a huge mess? It is a food court not a restaurant. Even at restaurants I try to consolidate my trash so it's more convenient for the waiter/waitress to remove.

SGT #5 (Sunday): WDW refillable mugs aren’t valid at McDonald’s.

Title says it all. At MCO waiting for my flight to take off I got a smoothie from one of the food vendors next to a McDonald’s. There were some SG’s there that were having their kids fill up the WDW mugs at the soda fountain. I’m surprised an employee didn’t come out to put a stop to it.

That's all for now...

I totally hear you on the character dining one. It happened several times at CP and LTT. I had to tell the people to leave the restaurant.

I will be your guide for this magical journey into the movies. It's the perfect job for me, because I love movies! Is everybody ready? Great, because it's showtime. Ready when you are, CB!

That monorail one reminded me of when I worked at Knott's as a Train Conductor on the Calico Railroad. During the off-season, instead of the train we would run the Galloping Goose, which resembles a silver old-fashioned bus on rails. Whenever we had kids on board, they would invaribly try to rock the Goose, and I'd have to yell at them to stop rocking it. Sometimes more than once. And whenever there was a weight-challenged person on board, there were times I was afraid the Goose would fall over.
I don't understand why kids feel they have to try to knock things off the rails. I remember once as a young teen we went to DLR, and one of my uncles was with us. As we rode the Skyway, he kept trying to rock the car, and I was freaking. Yeah, he can be a jerk at times. He hasn't learned much over the years, either. At mom's funeral he was commenting on the size of my younger sister's employers, an attorney and his wife, and my cousin was telling him how really "tactful " he was. Yes, there are times when I have wondered if I was switched at birth....

For some (strange) reason your post reminded me of something that happened to me at work last week. I am a computer lab monitor during the academic seasons, and somebody was spelling their last name for me to write down.

They started off by saying: "K as in cake"

After they left myself and the others around me were laughing over that one for about 5min!

Phonetic Alphabet For Spies

Post by Cheshire Figment » Tue Sep 29, 2009 8:04 pm

During World War II the US Government came up with the concept of a phonetic alphabet to assist in radio communications, so in the event of unclear reception words could be spelled out to prevent confusion. However, there is one group of people who wan to confuse the issue, so appended below is the phonetic alphabet for spies. All words are constructed so the first letter is either silent or is pronounced in an unexpected (according to the English language) manner. At the current time the provider does not have words to fit four of the letters of the alphabet. Help would be appreciated.

Aesthete
Bdellium
Ctenoid
Djinn
Euphony
Fnese
Gnomon
Honor
Iatrogenic
Junker or Juarez
Knight
Llama
Mnemonics
N----
Oedipus
Ptarmigan
Quiche
R----
S----
Tsar
Urn
V----
Wraith
Xyster
Ypres
Zhmud

(Note — only five of the above words were not appreciated by WordPerfect’s spell checker.)

Not that uncommon I don't think. I had one before I was drive trained, fat guy decided to do pull ups. I yelled "SIR, THE MONORAILS ARE NOT INTENDED AS EXERCISE EQUIPMENT!" from just outside the car. Needless to say he stopped, and he and his friends were probably confused on whether to be insulted or amused. Aah, to make an SG think!

On the other hand, catching the last monorail one night a pretty large group of monorail cast members decided to rock the monorail in the station. I was one of them. Anyway, we pondered doing it and giving the driver a beam contact, but seeing as it was Bo driving (and memory serving we were in Coral) we decided against that.

Stupidity is not a handicap, stand elsewhere.

Having just got back, I, and Mrs. Pirate, observed a few SG's, but strangely, did not see one instance of line jumping!

are the SG's getting a clue?

I did post a few picks of our trip in an album!

Hey Grumpy,

your picture inside SM - was that from the TTA? (We didn't make it on the TTA this time, but i was wondering if you could see inside SM from there).

Door alerts are also fun.

Same here. No line jumping at all.
