Just when I think I've seen it all another sick bastard pops up.

Cops Seek Cat Taper
Rescue workers found feline bound head to toe in Philadelphia yard

SEPTEMBER 23--What kind of a person duct tapes a cat head to toe? Philadelphia police are searching for the misfit who abandoned the animal after wrapping it with the gray industrial-strength tape (the female cat was discovered in a yard yesterday by Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals workers). Bound by the tape, the feline--pictured below and on succeeding pages in evidence photos--was not able to walk and was apparently left to die. SPCA workers successfully removed the tape from the cat, who has been nicknamed "Sticky" by rescue workers. As police probe the animal abuse case, SPCA officials have offered a $1000 reward for "the conviction of whoever body-wrapped a cat in duct tape and abandoned it in the rear yard of 2219 Edgley St., in North Philadelphia."

I recently saw something similar on Animal Cops Phoenix--police contacted the Phoenix SPCA, saying they saw a dog muzzled with duct tape, wrapped in a black plastic bag, and dumped by the side of the road to die. The dog was successfully treated and rehomed. Another case was a dog had been hogtied and left under some bushes. They offered a reward, but noone came forward. That dog was also treated and rehomed.

I believe it's because we live in a throwaway society--people think because they can use products and then throw them away, they can do the same with animals--and children. You also have things like speed-dating, microwave cooking, etc.--people don't have the attention span they used to have. Everything has to be instant. People have short-term relationships, and have no concept of committment in the long-term. And I think most people just aren't being taught from childhood that a pet is part of the family, and must be treated with respect. I've heard of dog owners who get a dog, then they tell the dog to sit, come, or whatever, and they can't understand why the dog doesn't do as it's told. Simple--you have to train the dog first. But people today are too busy, they don't have time to commit, so they treat them very superficially. And then of course you have these kids who think it's funny to do things like this, and don't understand the idea that there are consequences for their actions. There needs to be more education on animals, to teach people that just because it's an animal doesn't mean you can treat it like trash.

The poor cat. :(

I have a cat, and we treat her as family. We love her and she is with us for life.

There are just some horrible people in this world, that's all there is to it.

Yet another reason why I tend to like animals more than most people.

If they find that individual that did that to the poor kitty, I hope he or she gets a strong sentence and a major fine. Poor cat! We have an indoor cat and he is not let out either.

People are scum. I'm reminded of that every time I look at my cat SheiKra, who was thrown out of a moving car on I-4. And look at that sick bastard in Miami who was skinning cats alive and posing the bodies for photos and video. I hope they bury that little serial-killer-in-training under the jail house.

If I were not allergic to cats, I would take a few cats in. :)

They should get the same treatment, duct tape from head to toe and left somewhere without food or water.

Now cats are not my favorite animal but (I'm a dog person) but no animal should have to go through that.
