Rest in peace Teddy. You fought a lot of your own demons and were a better man for it.

That type of brain cancer sucks. Yeah, all cancer sucks, but this one's evil. Glioblastoma Multiforme is a stage 4 cancer that for right now, there is NO cure. It's normally very aggressive and grows quickly. The only thing they can really do is manage it, and even then, there's a point where treatment just stops working. Some people do really well, but most don't survive more than a year. Ted Kennedy had access to the best treatments and it still kicked his ass.
I really hope his struggle with GBM will bring money and attention to it. My grandmother has it, and even though she wouldn't benefit from new research, someone else will.

That's what my brother has - some form of glioblastoma in the brain. They gave him 3-5 years to live and he's lasted 4.5 years and started having worse symptoms recently. He had surgery yesterday and the cancer has spread. They removed what they could but he's paralyzed on the right side and can't speak. He understands and can nod or shake his head. They're hoping he will regain his speech and movement as the swelling goes down. He and his wife have finally resigned themselves that he probably won't last until Christmas. It is so sad - he's only 56.
He was exposed to a lot of chemicals during his career doing custom tile work so that might have contributed to it. Hard to tell. I'm just glad I flew out to Oregon to spend some time with him earlier this month. We visited his old stomping grounds including the grade school we kids attended, went to Mount Hood, Multnomah Falls and Bonneville Dam & Fish Hatchery, and spent a couple days at Seaside on the Oregon coast. He tired very easily but it perked him up to have me, my sister and other brother there to visit with him.
His wife is having a really hard time dealing with everything. They've been together since they were teenagers and he is the love of her life, as she is his. His second love is his yellow lab Shasta, and she will heartbroken when John is gone. I hope Shasta and his wife Judi will help console each other. :(

I do hope that there will be more funding toward a cure.
Very sorry for those of you who are dealing with such a terrible disease. :(
