Questions about transfers...

I'm supposed to transfer to a different department soon (from foods to attractions). Until last week, I couldn't wait to transfer. This week I was FINALLY back at my location I'm SUPPOSED to work at, and realized how much I love it there. I really love it where I'm at, when I'm actually SCHEDULED THERE. The bad thing tho, is most the time I'm never scheduled there. Only when it's busy. Scheduling still gives me tons of hours, just at other locations that I really don't care for as much. At the place I'm going to transfer to, I've been told I'd have lots of hours at that place. And I'm pretty sure I'd like it, my management and everyone else has said that I would. It is a lower rate tho, luckily only slightly, about 13 cents less an hour which really isn't a huge deal to me. I've been doing a lot of thinking tho, and I'm really not sure if I really do want to transfer, so was thinking about talking to my managers this week about it... BUT, it's too late if I've already gone into casting and signed the papers and notified the union of my intent to withdraw from my current one and join the attractions one, isn't it?

So... those of you who have transfered, what were your experiences (good and bad) with the transfer? Oh, and how long do you have to wait before you can transfer back if you end up hating it?

Depending on how long it's been they maybe able to retract it but probably not. Consider this as a opertunity (sp?) to move up in the world. Foods is a shit department. belive me I know.

hmm... ya, I'm guessing that since the new schedules are SUPPOSED to be up tomorrow, it's too late... I'm supposed to start at the new location on the 18th, tho the "Attractions and You" class they'll be paying me to sleep thru doesn't start til the 25th. I just found out about all of this THIS Tuesday (the 6th)... put in the forms to transfer only about a week and a half before that... all I can say is WOW  I always thought these things took forever.

I'm really happy working in foods.... but only when I'm at my location I'm supposed to work at. Getting sent to other locations is nice sometimes, and when it is only sometimes, I'm cool with that. But when I get about 10 shifts at other locations for every 1 shift I get at my location, it gets frustrating. And I'm a b*tch to put up with when I'm frustrated, even I know that...

I'm impressed you got a transfer so fast, especially from a department like foods...maybe they want to make way for another minimum wage body in your place???

Back in the stone age, you had to wait six months between transfers from one department to another - don't know if they still go by that rule. Really, I think you'll like attractions a whole lot more than foods - there's a lot more variety, and you have a much better opportunity of meeting and interacting with the guests - especially the interesting ones from outside the US...if you're a little nervous, it's ok - it just means that you want to do well. Best of luck in your new environs and have a ball! Just remember - about eight months out of the year, attractions is a cake walk! The other four months - the summer and holidays - you will earn every penny you make for the entire year. If you're prepared for those rush months, you'll enjoy the slow times... 8)

Thanks Birdmom.

I waited sooooo long for my managers to sign the transfer form. After I got it back I turned it in and things started moving really fast. They had my forms for over a good month tho! First the SAP was down... then they lost it... then the SAP was supposedly down again... then so and so had it... it was a nightmare trying to get that stupid thing signed.

from what I understand after you transfer you have 30 days to go back without losing senority... threatening to do that if I didn't get the attraction I wanted is how I got jungle.

Huh? How does that work? You mean like say I start at attractions on the 18th of this month, went and tried it to give it a fair shot and see what it was like, but ended up totally HATING it for whatever reason, I'd be able to transfer back to my current location by the 18th of next month, and not lose my senority over it?

I'm pretty sure that's still the case. check your union contract to be sure (the foods union, not attractions)

It's an intentional omission. This way, when the guests aren't being stupid enough, we can entertain each other! :pbjtime:
