Understandable how, what with losses a lot closer to us happening, this came in under the radar.

Oscar G. Mayer passed away Monday at age 95.

This kind of blows my mind, because I didn't know he was still around...

So long, and thanks for all the bologna...

Oh wow. I thought it was a made-up name, like Itasca.
And he 'will' be down for breakfast. (my wife just went to the grocery store)

Weenies for breakfast? Bleah!

When I was a kid eons ago I saw the original Little Oscar at a grocery store opening. He was a person of small stature and the Weinermobile was built on a Studebaker. He gave out Little Oscar Wiener whistles. if I had it today it would probably be worth thousands on eBay.

The cheese hot dogs are good for dinner. That stuff was the best when we went camping. :)

Yep, he was the third Oscar Mayer; his grandfather started the company. I remember those Little Oscar commercials, when he blew the Wiener Whistle, and there was a promotion where a Wiener Whistle was packed in every package of their hot dogs.

My grandmother had one of those old-fashioned type boxes printers used to use, and she used it to put small knickknacks in; my younger sister has it, and one of the items in it is a Wiener Whistle. It's a bit different from the original, because that was shaped like a hot dog in a bun, this is shaped like the Wienermobile.

Yeah, check out EBay--I've found Mr. Machine on there, and a few other things from my childhood on there. I hate not having money to buy them.
