Paul Frees was famous for his habit of taking the full hour for a voiceover session, no matter how short the line to be taped. It was a point of honor to him, and a source of unending entertainment for the recording studio staff (and friends).

Imagine if you will, Dr. Ludwig von Drake giving a 58-minute lecture on the mating habits of Homo Domesticus, with interruptions by Qwisp and Quake, that included somewhere within it a two-line reading for the new Pillsbury Doughboy ad. You'd have to tape the whole hour to get the ad because you'd be too busy bent over laughing to hit the Record button when the time came. None of the rest of it would be publishable, but all of it hilarious.

To read more about this legendary nutcase, I recommend his biography, "Welcome, Foolish Mortals: The Life and Voices of Paul Frees" by Ben Ohmart. ISBN---1-59393-004-6.

I will be buying that book. It will look good, well-worn, on my new entertainment-center-turned-bookcase (we're ditching the TV in lieu of a projector) in my new house. Those who know me and haven't been over need to do so. But let me get a couch and a dining room table and chairs first.

Oh, and down the road you're gonna love the train set layout. Model Railroad club seeks members, PM me for more info.
