SGC (Studipo Guest Conversation)

I was dining at a restaurant near WDW, with a large table of tourists right across the way. They were loudly discussing their Disney plans, and the conversation then veered off to Kings Island (an amusement park in Ohio...the one from the Brady Bunch, as us old timers will remember). One of them announced, "I hate that place! I was stuck upside for an hour and a half on Cobra." (He was referring to King Cobra, a stand-up coaster that is no longer there). The others were suitably impressed as he described dangling precariously with his head pointed at the ground for 90 minutes. Finally one said, "Wow! What did they give you?" He replied, "Well, I was going to complain but I didn't because when I went home, I found that my house was burned down to the ground."

Okay, here are my obvious questions, or are they just too darned obvious?

1) There would be media coverage for something like that. Believe me, I know too well because I used to live near Six Flags Great America and I remember the network feeding frenzy when the Demon coaster got stuck upside down. That one was only for like 45 mins. and it was just a plain sit-down coaster.

2) What would going home and finding your house burned down have to do with anything? Wouldn't you complain as soon as they got you off the coaster?

His dining companions did seem suitably impressed tho'. Too bad Mr. SGC didn't know more about the history of Kings Island. He could have claimed to have been there on the day that a drunk woman fell to her death from Flight Commander on the same day as two people got electrocuted in the fountain.

It was a conspiracy. The CMs got his address, stopped the coaster and had their friends rob his house and burn it to the ground to destroy any evidence.

Case closed! :D:

One day at Six Flags Over Texas, back in the 80's, on the lift hill for the Shock Wave (the first double-loop coaster, which is really tame by today's standards but was a big draw then), the lift chain stopped when we were just about to crest the hill. We sat there for 15 minutes before we got evac'd -- we had to climb out of the car (which was pointed to the sky) onto a see-through metal grid walkway and walk down the hill. It was pretty scary.

Later the same day, when the ride was up again, I went to try to ride it again. Same thing happened. So I got stuck on the same coaster twice in the same day, and had to walk down both times.

What did I get out of it? A really good time -- walking down was way more thrilling than the coaster ride! -- and a great story to tell. Never even entered my mind to complain.

You forgot to mention that they also covered up the coaster stopping via bribes to the media.

I give you credit - I would have never gone for the 2nd ride. While I do really love roller coasters, I'm at the same time very afraid of heights, so the walk down that metal grid walkway would have sent me well over my limit - though I'd never even think to complain; I might ask for some complimentary valium afterwards, but I wouldn't complain ;)

But outside of that, if you have a coaster that has a harnass and "locks and loads" me...then shoot me off to the moon! That's why I love IoA's Hulk :D:
