Lemon Foot

Little toddler girl, very cute, sitting in her stroller in Plaza, was limber enough to suck on her toes. She had long light brown hair down to her shoulders and blue eyes. Didn't say a word. Mom tells her to stop sucking on her toes. I talk with the mom, and asked if the little girl likes lemons? The mother says that the little girl thinks they're sour, so I thought maybe the lemon juice from the lemons we put out for guests who like lemon with their tea would stop the girl from sucking on her toes.

It doesn't... I rubbed a little lemon on the girl's foot, and toes and then the girl tastes her foot, *Oh goodness that's sour face* and licks the sole of her foot and toes go back into her mouth. *Oh goodness that's sour*face happened repeatedly...Then the mom says."She'll probably be telling me 'Lemon Foot' when we go home."

Two words, Tabasco Sauce. This is what my parents used to get us to stop needing a pacifier. It didn't work on one of us, but I am starting to suspect that his mouth doesn't detect capsaicin. Pacifier goes in the mouth, it burns, and we are done.

My mom just cut the tips off of all my pacifiers, when I was about one and a half. She thought it was a good idea...

After I screamed for three days straight, she caved in a bought me new ones.

Which is why the hot sauce works better, you are making it so that the child doesn't want the thing anymore.

Our Pediatrician told us to toss them and take the garbage out (so you don't go digging them back out), she rejected the Tabasco sauce idea, the cutting the pacifiers, etc. She said toss them, let em cry it out and move on. Paige (11 months now) never took to a pacifier, but she does suck her thumb from time to time (only when tired though).

Our Pediatrician also said the same thing about bottles, but we kept them knowing we would have more kids. Turns out it was worth it, Babies R Us took back bottles that had BPA (I'm not sold on the issue, but hey, this was free!), and we got enough bottles on the exchange that are BPA free. We had got the 4oz bottles, and 9 oz bottles. I think we had 20 total between the two sizes. Now we have 8, one is at the sitters, and the other 7 are here. Man, having that first kid really makes you go nuts with the baby gear.

A family friend told her little girl that the "binky fairy" was coming to take all of the "binkies". Another friend had (conveniently!) had a baby recently, so the "binky fairy" took the binkies to the new baby. It worked like a charm!

First child (now 14) liked his pacifier, but gave it up will very little urging shortly before little brother was born because he was no longer going to be the baby in the family.

Younger child... just never cared for it. Neither one ever sucked their thumbs.

Oh, and both were sleeping through the night by the time they were 3 months old.

Life is good sometimes.

You can buy a "Bitter Apple" spray at pet stores to discourage chewing ;)
Used it on a patient's oxygen tubing once to discourage psycho kitty, worked like a charm! :D:
Unknown if safe for kids.....
