How has Disney changed you?¿

This question is mainly for those who are or have worked for our Lord and Master Mickey....
Today, I was walking to the Dollar Store near where i live when I saw some trash on the ground. I thaught to myself that i HAVE to pick it up and throw it in the trash can that was lie 18 inches away. then it dawned on me.... even before I was employed by Disney.. I would pick up trash if i thought about it... but now i zero in on trash and it become imperative to remove such rubbish and place it in the proper sceptically.
Have any of you had this happen to you....

Even after I quit my job at USH, I still felt obligated to pick up trash and help lost looking people (at the malls, airport... etc.) Once while visiting Disneyland, I even helped a couple fold their stroller so they could get it on the Disneyland Railroad. It is obvious I still miss helping people.

I too sometimes tend to pick up trash outside the parks and I do it inside whether or not I'm working.
I always use the two-fingered point and I also tend to help out lost looking people no matter where I am if I know the area.

I still use the two-finger point (even here in NJ).

I feel changed in two distinct ways...
Positive-I definitely have a stronger desire to "go above and beyond" wherever I am. I also treat workers with more courtesy and respect wherever I go. I also am more assertive for myself and I am not afraid to stand up to guests when they are being SGs.
Negative-As of late (see "I am back" post) I have become more disheartened with the company. I knew I was naive coming in and I became more street-smart during my first year with the company. The last three months have caused me to become a little jaded with the company and the fact that I really am expendable and mean very little to them. I feel like I was betrayed by a company the often promotes how "disability friendly" it is. I feel like I was unfairly judged and they have destroyed one of the very reasons I started working for them in the first place.
**steps off soapbox**

Companies, in general these days, are bottom line orientated. They will talk up how they value their most precious resource, you. But when things get tough, the easiest way to cut costs is reduce staffing.
In your case the company has a high level policy but the front line managers have both real world needs and a fear of insurance issues or hits on their budgets.
When I was at IBM we heard the same stuff. A woman I worked with had a medical issue and was getting nowhere. She finally told her third level manager she was going to call the chairman's office about her problem. Her medical insurance was changed within the hour.
Goes to show what a little pressure and visibility can do to change behavior.

Depends. That doesn't work for Disney. Making any sort of threat of legal action is grounds for termination. I was also told that trying to fight this too hard they will fire me. Plus managers don't get any say in medical situations. My managers would have me come back in a heartbeat but the morons at Health Services make the policies and now I am on safety-sensitive restrictions.

I now am tempted to say, "Have a Magical Day!" to some of my patients and co-workers- and you all know what that REALLY means! ;)
