Circuit City is doomed!

I went there today to buy a laptop. I knew exactly what I wanted 'cause I had found it online. The one guy who asked me if I needed help had an ID10T problem. He didn't know jack about any of the laptops. He went to find someone to help. Meantime about 6 employees walked by me and ignored me.

So I looked at all the cptrs and could see that the one I wanted was not there. So then the ID10T looked at all of 'em too. Nope, they don't have it. So then he tried to sell me a different out-of-the-box floor model, that he said was "Just as good". No thank you. So then I got on the internet right there in the store and showed him what I wanted. He went to ask somebody. When he came back, he said "We don't have it in stock." Duh!

I said, "Can you order it and have it shipped to me?" (Because the SIGN says: IF WE DON'T HAVE IT, WE'LL ORDER IT AND HAVE IT SHIPPED TO YOU FREE!" So he has to go ask his supervisor (who must've been 18). Supervisor said fine. I think it was the salesguy's first day. I had to tell him how to input my info into his computer. I should get it in a week. LOL!

Oh, and it's what, 5 weeks before Christmas? Their shelves are pretty bare. Sad. I always liked CC better than Best Buy. Guess I better change my preference.

I heard the other day that Circuit City has filed bankruptcy. Don't know if it is true but I'd believe it. In my experience their service and selection of products doesn't even compare to BestBuy's. I've preferred BestBuy since my first visit to one when they opened one up in Pensacola years ago.

And now I know why!

This doesn't entirely surprise me, based on a recent experience. In my opinion, Best Buy is far superior in product, price and service. I purchased a new laptop this summer, and comparison shopped at both stores. Circuit City had very little to offer in comparison.

In addition, they shoved their laptop display into a sad little corner in the back of the store with poor lighting. This made it somewhat hard to shop and coming from a retail background, the display wasn't very appealing to the eye. Plus, Best Buy's prices were much better.

Tis their loss - I ended up buying my laptop at BB, plus additional software and accessories that I had not originally planned on, because my experience at Best Buy was so good (and admittedly, there was a very decent sale going on!). BB's sales staff was informed but never once pushed me to buy something that I didn't want (if there's anything that will make me walk away is an overly eager salesperson).

(and no...I don't work for Best Buy. LOL!)

Circuit City has been in a death spiral for a while. A while ago they fired all their experienced sales staff and brought in rookies thinking it would save them money in base salaries. It did, but it took a while to determine the rookies weren't selling anything either.

After a few months they tried to rehire the old sales guys. From the above description it sounds like many didn't return.

Ah yes, Circuit Shitty. 155 stores going away.

I usually end up buying online, or for things like TV's that I don't want shipped, I'll go to Best Try.

That explains a lot!

I was looking to upgrade the memory on my computer from base to maximum capacity; Circuit City had the 512MB modules for $27.99 each, after taking $2 off due to a promotion. Thing is, it was only available on the internet, and I don't have a credit card/debit card. I haven't had a bank account in a couple of years. I was saving up my points on MyPoints (http://www.mypoints.com) for a gift card or two to buy the memory with, but at the rate I'm going, it wouldn't be any good, cause it would take at least another year before I had enough points. Mervyn's is bankrupt too, and the stuff they have is crap. Used to be a nice place to shop. Anyway, I checked the HP site, and they have the memory I need for $69.99 each. OUCH! I'm gonna hafta check MyPoints' site to see if they other places that have the memory I need, without gouging me for it. Funny how they haven't announced that CC is going under and maybe people shouldn't use their points for a gift card or online shopping there. I hear they aren't accepting gift cards anymore.

FelineFan, you'll have a better time dealing with RAM if you get it at MicroCenter down in Tustin. A couple of weeks ago, a good friend (another former KBF employee) and I picked up 512 Meg sticks for his computer for less than Circuit City is asking. Plus, they have salespeople who actually know what the hell they're selling.
