In the Disney Insider newsletter this week there was an article about Roy O. Disney (Walt's nephew) who is an avid sailor, having sailed the Trans-Pacific Yacht Race (Transp-Pac) several times and even winng it in 1999.
Disney is making a film that documents the true story of 15 young men and women as they undergo intense training to take part in the Transpac, a 2,500-mile open-ocean sailing competition from Long Beach, California, to Diamond Head, Hawaii. It's supposed to be in theaters this week but I haven't seen it advertised locally. I sure hope it plays here soon as I'd love to see it.
Hobie - do you know anything about it? You've sailed the Trans-Pac, haven't you?

I do. Roy weeded through a number of young sailors to get a crew of eleven. They trained off and on in Hawaii with the rock stars of sailing. They sailed last years Trans-Pac from LA to Honolulu and got second in class against a very experienced crew.

I've seen mixed reviews but I plan on seeing it.

Another great sailing movie done by Roy is Pacific High. It was done probably 25 years ago. It's about the annual Newport - Ensenada race and has some pretty funny moments.

I haven't done the Trans-Pac but I did do the FUBAR from LA to La Paz.
