You want my WHAT?!

I was walking about today and met a few guests who wanted to Pin Trade.
All in all, it was a pretty flawless transaction, no SGish behaviour of any sort, really (they all seemed to be having fun, and behaving themselves), with the exception of one thing.
One of them points to my Year Service Pin (it's a small pin with an engraving of Steamboat Willie Mickey Mouse that CMs with One Year of service wear on their nametags), says he wants it, and starts offering me all sorts of pins for it.
I politely decline (I only get one replacement, not to mention the sentimental value it has for me personally and the fact that the Pin Trading official rules explicitly state that those pins are non-tradeable). He keeps insisting and offering pins.
Eventually, one of his companions point out that he can't have the pin since it isn't a Tradeable one (again, this was an SG moment in a non-SG group, lol)

Sounds like they got carried away with pintrading. Good thing their buddy told them it wasn't for trading. There's people like that--always wanting what they can't have.

Tell him, if he wants it, he can buy it off of ebay! There are tons on there.

1. If you are on stage then they may trade off of the lanyard or vest or what ever item the CM use. If it is a CM without said item then no trades.
2. If you are not on stage then you may trade ANY pin you want for what every you want as long as it is a pin, pin backs, pin bags and other pin trading items.
That said a person is supposed to ask then listen for the answer. Either they were so new to Disney that they did not know that your pin was not for trade due to sentimental value OR they were so obsessed with the pin that they would do anything to get that pin. CM pins are hard to get and personally I would never hound someone if they said no twice.
Congratulations on meeting one of the few SGs in pin trading. They can be an obsessive lot but most are very nice.

When my wife and I last visited WDW, she got bit hard by the pin trading bug, and every morning she would accost hapless cast members searching their lanyards for pins. Once morning as we were heading to the Magic Kingdom from the Monorails, she came across a CM accompanying someone who had a full lanyard.
My wife started inspecting the other person's lanyard and I noticed the other person was a little taken aback. Also she wasn't wearing a nametag. So I blurted out without thinking, "you can't force a trade with her; she's not a cast member, she's a real person."
So, who was the stupid guest in *that* story? ;)

Thats one of the reasons DW and I stoped wearing our lanyards, then we stopped taking them with us. We had several encounters with semi-SG pin traders who wanted pins we had purchased for momentos of the vacation. and wanted to trade for some very "common" pins. We had one budding SG (about 11 or 12) who Demanded that we trade. when I said no thanks, his SG mom said, in a rather snotty tone, that she thought we HAD to trade, according to the rules. (we DID have our GOH nametags on the lanyards)
I told her that only applied to CM's. She did not understand and said that she didn't see that in any rules. When I asked her where she read that, she said that she got the information off the internet.
(we walked away laughing!)
