Small World

Okay, I know that it's not one of my favs but I am a little concerned. Just what the hell are they doing in there? Did the dolls finally come to life and eat someone? Is the blood that hard to get off of the ceiling or what?

I checked the Disney website not really thinking about it but I had had a guest say something to me.

It's closed from January until about Nov.? Again, since it's not one of the ones I frequent too much, it didn't register the last time I went there.

But what should I tell guests that ask me? Should I say that it is getting a major refurb or what?

For my personal amusement, what is the real story??

Just tell them that the kids are becoming too well behaved, and that they are trying to find some to replace the ones that are worn out!!

hehehehe

Must admit that IS an awful long time. But then again DW and I stay away from there unless we have the GK's with us!

They are replacing the flume, which was the original one, and doing some other stuff inside.

You heard about Americans today, they are fat and obese, so that's why they need the flume to be wider. :D

This applies only to Small World in DLR and it is different from WDW.

1. The current ride is on a fibreglass flume that is above ground which means over the years layers of fiberglass patch work has built up.

2. Evacs can be dangerous. As stated the boats are above ground and CMS have to help guests out of the boats. There is now a platform on the curve by the Canadian mounties because boats get stuck there often. To remedy this they will be adding water and replacing the boats with more bouyant boats.

3. Increased loads for the boats. Originally guests on average were lighter weight. Originally a guest would have a child, purse, camera and maybe a sweater or jacket. Now guests are heavier and carry lots of stuff on them like cell phones, games, walkie talkies, back packs, and other expidition needs.

4. Since the ride was opened there was at least one tornado hit the area and numerous earthquakes. Also add the guests who like to damage things. Disney will not say this is a factor but currently boats are getting stuck at the geese and mounties.

I can't believe I have to say this again. The flume is getting replaced, no not because people are fat, but because it's old. It is the original flume from 1966, the boats are the original boats from the 1964 World's Fair, they're both old and simply need to be replaced.

As for the buoyancy issue, yes they are making the boats a little more buoyant (we're talking an inch) but it's just more of an issue of stopping boats getting stuck, which does not necessarily have anything to do with the size of the people in the boats, it has to do with the weight distribution in the boats. If you have two small children in the front row and two adults in the back row, it can still get stuck even if the adults are petite cause they way more than the children in the front. OR even better, you have two small children in the front and 3 adults in back, the adults will weigh significantly more and the boat will get stuck because of uneven weight distribution.

There will probably be some minor show changes, what they are I do not know for sure yet, all I know is rumors and I won't encourage those.
