[font="Palatino Linotype"]elyse and i decided (sort of last minute) to go to disneyland for their birthday...and it was really a lovely day...as far as crowds go there really wasn't one...they were sending cm's home  ....we were kind of surprised, but not really...i've had the feeling that with the price of gas and airline tickets going up disneyland wouldn't be overly busy this summer and the cm's told us as much...

but towards the evening the crowds around the attractions got even less (not that we were going on many rides...we just made mental notes) and we made our way down main st. to meet up with our nephew (he's in his 40's) we noticed people were already staking out spots for the fireworks show at 9:25...but it was only 7:15! even i was stunned ;)

it just so happened we were going to be eating dinner at the plaza inn on main st. (we looked for you purpie) and would be there during the fireworks show...only then i heard an announcement...not what was being said, only that there was an announcement...but i looked at my watch and it wasn't 9:25 yet...i looked up and saw some trees and flags blowing...a little later another announcement...but no one was moving...about 10 minutes later there was another announcement and a collective groan went up on main st...the fireworks were canceled due to high winds...

a mass exodus followed...we weren't close enough to the street to hear anyone complaining...was there a rush to city hall about this cancellation too?

I'm sure there was. People still go to GR (or us at Soarin') to complain about Test Track being down when it rains.

Sending love across the country to my bubble ladies.

I have to ask this. Please don't shoot me for asking an SG question. What fireworks show are they running now? Is it the condensed 50th anni. or is it the actual whole thing? Or a brand new show?

I haven't been for a while and I'm usually on the wrong side of the park when it has started.

BTW: I adored the one with Julie Andrews announcing. But I'm just a freak like that. Knott's did a great send-up of it at the Hanging a few years back.

We're still doing the 50th Anniversary show, Remember... Dreams Come True, with the exception of around Christmas, when we show Believe... in Holiday Magic, as well as on the 4th of July, when we present Disney's Celebrate America: A Fourth of July Concert in the Sky

There have been some changes to the dialogue to reflect the fact that Disneyland Park is now more than 50 years old. However, it otherwise remains the same show.

As to the Anniversary Fireworks Show, I don't think it was as bad as the 4th. The DLR (as far as I'm aware), doesn't do anything special for the Anniversary. And of course, it wasn't for a show that we only present once a year, lol. Probably not much more than what they get on a normal windy evening. Does it really make any difference when dealing with them? Probably not. But at least they aren't stretching down Main Street USA, lol.

Fireworks or not, here's hoping our favourite Bubble Ladies had a wonderful trip :D: .

What's... the deal with putting all the "..."'s in the titles? Can't... they come up with a different scheme?

Good thing it's not "Wishes..." or "Fantasmic..." or "Illuminations..."

[font="Palatino Linotype"]actually, we had heard it was supposed to be a different show than usual, but it could have just been a rumor...but, as glendalais said, usually it's the cut down version of the 50th anniversary show...but still not a bad show...i wish i could watch it from in front of the castle again *SIGH* but elyse isn't that fond of fireworks and figures if we're gonna watch them we can do it from a smoking area...

it was a lovely day that day, thanks very much...a slow day for us...mostly just us walking around...a kind of healing time...disneyland is our happy place :) we did look for our cm friends, but most of them were off that day (just our luck...or was it theirs? ;) )...either way it's the first time in many months (probably close to a year) that it's been just elyse and me...

(speaking of smoking areas, they've changed the one from over by the tomorrowland train station...now it's over where the motorboats queue used to be...all the way at the back of that area, so no one has to walk through smoke to get there...it's in the shade with lots of places to sit :D: ) at least that's where it was on july 17th

And take away the dramatic pauses that the "Voice of Disneyland" gets to do when announcing the Fireworks? Perish the thought! :p:

Yep, that's the new "Tomorrowland" smoking area (really Tomorrowland/Fantasyland). I've brought a few friends who smoke into the park, and they love it there, for all the same reasons you do: seating, shade, chance to see the birds on the old Motorboat Cruiseway.

Disney actually did something smart for a change :D: .

Actually, Elena, you and Elyse just missed Purpie by about an hour, as by the time you were there, she was off for the night, and we were going to our double feature of Hellboy 2 and The Dark Knight. :(
