I loved the Princess Diaries. I used to dream Disney went somewhere exotic
to do the outside scenes of Genovia. I was sort of heart broken to now learn
Genovia was just the European Village set at Universal studios. but Mia's old
fire house home does excist at 724 Brazil Avenue in SF, CA.
Side Note: the latin in the Genovia crest says: The whole body works.

Sorry you had to get your bubble burst like that, drcorey.
I hate to break it to you, but I lived in Germany (Berlin and Stuttgart) for five years, and the first thing I thought during that parade scene was, "Ugh.. that is one awful backlot / soundstage of a european village."

Worse then where Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was filmed?
You know they only let the crew get sort of near Neushwanstien,
the rest they made them shoot in near by villages.

I thought that St. Wolfgang in Austria was the arch typical Germanic Village

Speaking of Princess Diaries, I am currently reading the whole series. I'm just on book two, and to be honest - Mia is a whole lot more charming and likable in the film than in the book. It's not like I don't like the "book" her - I do - but she seems a bit more complaining and self loathing in it. I hope to keep reading though the series to see if she grows up any.
Oh yeah, the town in Genovia in the movie - sooo obviouly fake.

And what's funny is that there's actually a Tataouine, Tunisia. They filmed some of the Phantom Menace Tattooine scenes there. (One of the seasons of the Amazing Race actually went there on a challenge)
