New to APs, DVC and DDP -- Help us not be tools!

Long time lurker here. Our family (hubby, 14 yo son & 5 yo daugther & me) have visited WDW bunches of times, but are new to a LOT of things this year. We closed on a DVC about 2 mo. ago, ordered our 1st APs last week, and are doing DDP for the first time in Aug.
I feel like we're walking into a minefield of ways to look like jerks at WDW

We so desperately want to avoid being the self-important ignoramuses that make you fine CMs hate your jobs.
Now that we've financially committed ourselves to 1-2 trips a year, please give us some good tips on how NOT to be passholes (and how to help first-timers we bring with us to do the same)!

First off, remember: Many passholders are not passholes (See: Syndrome...unless it's warranted). I ran into someone yesterday who had the right idea, and I've met many others. But then, what we talk about here is not the majority of guests to Disney World.
Just do Disney as you always have... just enjoy it, enjoy us as the Cast Members and enjoy the time with your family. That is why you come here, and that's why we're here.

And Welcome to the SGT!!
Keep posting and share your experiences!
I think that the fact you posted here is already a big step in become a fun guest! You should have not problems, and don't be afraid to ask people here. After all, this site has a lot of knowledgeable CM's that can steer you in the right direction. Plus a large number of WDW and DLR AP's that like to have fun when visiting the parks.
Half the time, the SG's simply don't know the rules, or how things work, and because of that become the dreaded "SG"

Seriously, it comes down to two simple things...
1) Think before you act.
2) The Golden Rule*
That should help you get by great, have fun, and let those around you have fun.
T
*Despite what a lot of SG's think, the Golden Rule is "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you" NOT "I spent a lot of gold to be here, so I make the rules"

Hey, you've already passed the first hurdle -- you realize that your behavior can affect others! That puts you ahead of 99% of the guests out there. Relax, you'll do fine. :)

Could not have been said better. Just remember that once you pass through the turnstiles you are all kids at heart here to have fun and immerse yourself in pixie dust. And, let me be one of the first to say "It has been our pleasure to assist you"!
Welcome home

If you're going to be on the DDP for the first time, I highly suggest downloading and reading the official brochue about it:
http://adisneyworld.disney.go.com/media ... Dining.pdf
It should answer most of your questions. My one tip about the DDP is to make sure to mention to the CM at the *start* of the transaction that you're using the Dining Plan. Oh, and anything that can be purchased with a Snack credit will have a white-and-purple DDP logo next to it on the menu boards and signs (there's a far greater variety of snacks available than just the soda, ice cream and popcorn that the brochure mentions).

Wow, thanks, it is now in my vacation folder! Its seems to be pretty simple. You just have to tell the CM.
