Today I was in TL Guest Services just before I left. I had been in a ticket booth all day and was doing some administrative stuff.
We had a manager, two WDW Security, an Orange County Deputy Sheriff, and some very unhappy Guests outside. From all I was able to pick up was something about a missing purse, which can be pretty traumatic.
However, I heard something bandied about concerning ten carats[/size] of diamond jewelry that had been in the purse.
Unfortunately I'm not back to work until next Wednesday, so I may not hear anything further until then.

It totally escapes me why people need to carry a mass of bling to an amusement park. All you need to wear in the way of jewelry is your promise/engagement/wedding band(s). Ten carats of diamond jewelry? That's excessive. If this report is true, why did they need to carry that with them? Banks have safe deposit boxes for that, y'know.

I always enjoy the guys who wear Mr. T starter sets.
Don't be fooled by appearances. In Hawaii, some of the most powerful people look like bums and stuntmen.

That or irreplaceable stuff to parks then cry when they lose the only picture of their great aunt Bessie. 10 k is not that much but still people insist on wearing Gucci to parks and having $700 strollers. I hope she was insured for stupidity, lol.

Re: New Item But Not Yet Good Information
First, after over 20 years dealing with the public i have had countless people claim things were stolen out of thier cars while in our posession and to date never had anyone follow through or prove the items were ever there or stolen. I have had the 10 Ct diamond ring claim several times and the most common thing is good old cash money. Many years ago after getting a call from a guy that said there was $5,000.00 in cash in his vehicle I called the agency that had it towed and told him the owner was calling claiming there was money and almost accusing us of stealing it without looking at or in the vehicle. The cop said to me "do you think this guy would call if he had 5K in his vehicle? he would be down there collecting it". Well, he never showed and never even picked up the vehicle. My conclusion, people lie.
Think about it, purse goes missing and I'm sure thats a daily occurence at most theme parks since I see people leaving them and camera bags and everything else in strollers all over the place. Your dishonest to begin with, just like the person who used the opportunity you presented them to grab your valuables and you think the park is going to give you back what you lost. So along with all your vacation money that was in your wallet that was stolen you decied let the park, in this case the Walt Disney company buy you that big ass diamond ring you always wanted, so claim you owned it and it was in the stolen purse.
My guess is Disney doesnt reimburse people for losses at the parks or on any property for this sort of thing. most of the time its the guests fault and they have a limited liability on this sort of thing to begin with, just read the resort room agreement, parking stub or entry media and its on them.
I dont leave anything laying around for someone to grab. I stepped away from my table at DCA once to toss some garbage, my stepson who was active duty Navy (navy cop) stood up to stretch, by backpack was on the table, I was only 10 feet away and watching and SS was less than 5 feet away, watched this kid change directions and head right for my backpack, he looked at me, I looked him in the eye that told him I was watching and my SS gave him a look that said "go for it and die", he changed directions away from us faster than he did towards us.
When I go to the parks I dont even carry a wallet, I have a money clip that also holds a few cards, always in front pocket, only a couple hundred cash to start with, use ATM/debit/CC for almost all purchases, backpack with nessesities and camera in it that never leaves my possesion. I dont even take anything of real value on vacation with me, my camera is the most valuable and that pretty much never leaves me.

ROTFL. Seriously now. Like the cops would believe stuff like this? And are these people stupid enough to believe that Disney would reimburse them? My guess is that they may have been pulling an insurance scam ("we went to DW and someone stole my wife's purse along with the jewelry. Here's the police report.")Cheshire Figment wrote:Today I was in TL Guest Services just before I left. I had been in a ticket booth all day and was doing some administrative stuff.

I mean, let's pretend this is real: you're on vacation, you don't trust the hotel with your jewels (not even their lockbox? anyway) and you decide to put your 3 carat ring, 2 carat ring, 1 carat ring, 2x 1 carat diamond earings and a 3 carat necklace in your purse for safe-keeping (that's over 10 carats, right?).
Now, how stupid do you have to be to leave it somewhere or not have it strapped tightly and irremoveably to your body?

Re: New Item But Not Yet Good Information
I would say that it is doubtful that the ring ever existed.
DW usually never takes her expensive stuff on vacation, and if she does, it goes in the safe!
Plus we have pictures of it, as well as descriptions. One trick I learned when doing other activities at work is, that when we travel, the first thing I do is take a picture of anything we brought with us that is valueable,, such as laptop, rings, ear rings, etc. and set them in an easily identifyable area of the room. (Next to the phone that shows the room number) and then email copies to myself at a secondary e-mail address. plus leave them on one of the memory sticks. If something DOES happen, you have proof that they exist.
(plus we take a video/still picture inventory of everything at home for our insurance)
A sad thing we learned when the fires in california burned down the house of a friend of DW, she lost an estimated 50K in sewing machines, material, software, quilts, and Disney stuff!
I think they ARE trying to get some free stuff!

I wear my wedding set and a pair of diamond earrings, but I wear them the whole time I am there. I NEVER remove them, well, only the earrings to clean them and then put them back in. I do have one necklace I bring on vacation because it goes with a particular outfit (if I bring it) and I lock it in the safe. But that is it. Any extra cash goes in the safe.
Though now, I usually head to the WOD and buy a gift card with all my souvenir money for the trip. It is easier to keep it on one card and not carry cash, just the little you need for tips.
Ralph lost his money clip at DtD at The Rainforest Cafe one trip. He has a habit of keeping it in his front pocket, but if he goes to get keys out it is easy for the clip to slide out without him knowing. He had a LOT of cash on that clip too. Someone had a VERY nice vacation! I just hope that it was someone who needed it. Thanks God Momma had her own mad money! :hysteria: And we went back to check if some honest person turned it in (yeah, right, with that kind of loot! HAHAHA!!!) Never got it back! SURPRISE! NOT!
I still do a money clip check on him every time we leave any restaurant or store to make sure he has it! NO, I don't frisk him. I just make him show it to me. ;)

My sister and BIL go to the casinos in Vegas often, and they've lost several cell phones there. Reason? They put them out in front of them to keep track of time, and when they step away from the gaming tables and forget them--somebody ends up with a "free" cell phone. I still don't get why they don't use wristwatches like God intended. Of course, I'm not a gambler anyway, so what do I know? :D:
