Stupid Guest Tricks

I took a trip to DLR and DCA early last year and saw some memorable SGs. I knew I wouldn't post as soon as I could so I wrote a key phrase down, so no dates or times, sorry.

First on my list, as I recall, was watching the Aladdin show in DCA. We were seated in the theatre and there was about 1 minute to show time, but there were some people in a big hurry to see the show and get out of there. I can understand being in a hurry, but if that is the case, than maybe you shouldn't be going to see this show, right? Well, they thought they could make the show start faster by clapping, needless to say, the show didn't start any faster.

There were of course, a lot of stupid kids doing things you probably see on a daily basis, except one group. These kids had their arms linked and were skipping down the path. Now, I saw them coming, so I move out of the way. Oh no, they don't want people to move out of their way, so they shift back into me. I should have thrown my weight into them and bowled them all over, oh well, hindsight is 20:20.

I saved the most memorable for last of course. We got the dream fast passes on this trip, and so we decided that we would use the Autopia pass. We would never have done it otherwise because the line is always so long and we prefer to use our fast passes for other things. Well, we get into our cars and start going. Before too long the person in front of us suddenly forgets how to work his car (we know the car was fine because he was able to get it to work when a CM came over to find out what was wrong). The car not working was the least of his problems though, he apparently never noticed that the cars are on a track and was waving for us to pass him. We all got a good laugh out of that one.

I also found out that I need to stop looking so knowledgeable about the parks while I am there, I was asked if I work there, and I wasn't even wearing anything close to one of the costumes.

That is all I have written down for that trip. I may add more to this next week after my trip down there this weekend.

I'm with you on this one. Apparently the parks are just teeming with SG's who assume that touristy-dressed guests with their families are cast members, but who have to ask CM's with white oval nametags and brightly colored polyester costumes "Do you work here?" :duh:

I asked a CM in costume if he worked there the other day, then again I was in Cast Connection where most of the customers are CMs in costume, including name tag and I thought the costume he was in was Cast Connection's but not sure.

I've been asked if I work here before while in costume and I laugh about it afterwards. No, I don't work here, I'm just standing around wearing brown pants (a shade I've never seen anywhere else), a long sleeved shirt, and a brown plaid vest with a tag that says "Walt Disney World" and my name on it.

I maintain that "do you work here" is a polite way of opening up a conversation where you will make demands of the other person. I think somewhere in the back of the SG's brain they *know* you do or do not work there, but they feel it is rude to simply walk up to a stranger asking, say, "where is the bathroom," or "what times does the 3:00 parade start?" So they start with an easy, sort of get to know you questions.

That's my theory anyway.

Well, I just got back from my trip this weekend, and surprisingly didn't see any tricks, maybe I wasn't looking hard enough. Except how crowded it was today of course, but that isn't the fault of the SGs.

Oh well, I got to try out TSMM. It is loads of fun, but the lines are going to be horrendous for awhile. My high score is 166500, I think that's pretty good for a first run.

"Do you work here" is because they probably are so embarrassed from the times they go to Home Depot and as a stranger for advice not realizing the person is not an employee. How many times does it take an SG to get nervous about asking the wrong person a question. Oops you do not work here. Nice report,

That, and I have noticed that people are not as well versed in asking a stranger for assistance of any kind. They probably know that a CM would be in some sort of costume with a nametag.

Of course, DW and I had ours and I have been asked a number of times for information. I just try and help them, as they usually seem to be first timers.

But then again, I was taught many years ago that you can get a lot of help, simply by asking politely "excuse me Sir (Or Miss) could you plese tell me..."

(I have also found that they younger they are, the better they respond to the SIR or Miss)
