Stupid Guest Tricks

My daughter was married this weekend. As well know Disney fans, the grooms brother and wife came to me for some advice about their upcoming WDW trip. They have an daughter who will be 8 months old at the time of their trip and they wanted to know if they could take the kid on rides like Splash or Space Mountain IF (get this) they bring her car seat and strap her in! Thier reasoning was that if the car seat was safe enough for a car, it should be fine for a WDW attraction. I thought the guy was kidding me but he was dead serious (poor choice of words on my part, sorry). Naturally I told him no way that was going to be allowed and that it was a dumb idea to begin with. I went on to explain ride sharing with him but I'm not sure he bought into the concept. Anyway, I'm fairly sure that I convienced him that he could do the car seat thing and really shouldn't want to.

I am hoping that I prevented a SGT but knowing that guy....who knows!

That is unbelievable!! What an idiot! (sorry, if he's a friend of yours). Does he not realize that some rides include fast, steep drops and g-force turns that passengers in a car would never experience unless the car was out of control and heading for a crash? I sure hope he heeds your advice. If not, you know the CMs will keep him from doing something really stupid.
To give him the benefit of the doubt, once he's ridden a couple of those rides himself, I'm sure he'll realize his idea of taking the baby on those rides was really a baaaad idea.

Not to mention that a car has special equipment for securely fastening the car seat in, where theme park rides do not. I assume he'll figure it out pretty quickly when he thinks more about it. If not, well, he'll give a few cast members a good laugh in the breakroom when they talk about it later!

I'm a parent of a 2-year-old with another one on the way, and have done a lot of reading on modern-day car seats. What gets me is how many parents don't realize that those things only protect children when properly strapped to a vehicle's seat belt or LATCH system. They are not a safety device when the car seat is removed from the car and clicked into a stroller (although they are pretty damn convenient that way), and they definitely will not protect a child in an impact other than a car crash, such as falling off a table while strapped into one (yes I had someone tell me this not too long ago). Aside from the fact that Disney ride vehicles don't have safety harnesses that would make a vehicle car seat functional, most are also too small to even think of putting a car seat in.

We took Abby when she was 1, ride swap rules! Paige might go in October to DLR, she'll be approx 8 months. I should email into guest services and have some fun. "My daughter will be 8 months, should I bring her car seat so she can ride things like Autopia, Fantasyland rides, Pirates and the DLRR?"

If they say no car seats, I'll counter that my car seat is certified for use on aircraft ;)

It'd only be worth it if I could hear the comments or see their faces :D:

Second.. Kilimanjaro Safari will allow car seats in the passenger area aslong as it is accompanied by an adult. I only put that last part in because we do have SG's who would sit on one side of the row and have the car seat on the other...

Hmm, you also have to post the e-mail you receive when they tell you that your reservations were 'accidently" lost! (hehehehehe) and that no space is available!

(or that your passes have been deleted from the system!)

Speaking of children in dangerous conditions...

On Thursday, I went to DL and DCA, so naturally I went on Pirates. The lady next to me had a 2 month old baby on her lap. I was convinced the child would go ballistic after the TWO DROPS or the gunfire/canons or the darkness, etc.

The kid ended up falling asleep, I think, but I still don't think that a baby should go on that ride.

This is a little off topic, but you know how a lot of SGs will argue about their kid being too short to ride? I saw the opposite happen on Thursday. In front of Thunder Mountain, this 6 year old (who was pretty short for his age) was shouting at this father that he wanted to go even though he clearly didn't meet height requirements. The dad brought over a CM to explain it to the kid, I hope it turned out okay...

Thanks for your responses, thought you would have agreat laugh out of that guys stupidity. Actually, more ignorance really. Its his first trip so to be fair, he really has no idea of what some of these rides are like. To give hiom his due, he didn't suggest taking the baby on Rocl Roller Coaster, just something like Splash. I did tell him there was no way that the cast members would allow the baby to ride unless it was safe and to be sure and follow their rules. I think he thought he was trying to be smart. And no, he isn't a friend or even family of mine...my daughter did marry into the family however. But I think she got the pick of the litter.
