What did you just ask me?

Post by GuestJockey » Sun Jun 08, 2008 10:21 am

So yesterday I was supposed to be training, and on my way in I realized I'd forgotten my training binder. "I'll be OK," I thought, "It's just 1 trainee." Now, I was supposed to have 30 minutes before the trainee got there to set up and get ready, but suddenly - there's my trainee! "Crap," I thought, "OK, just go with it." She explained that her trainer the day before for another location had told her that her shift started at 6:30am instead of 7. "Well, that's dumb," i thought, "but then, that's ______(name withheld)_____ for you!" Then who shows up? Name withheld!!! She's here to SHADOW me and I'm training her to be a trainer! I had not been told by anyone that I would be training a trainer that day ("crap, now I DO need my binder.") and I didn't have time to either set up for myself OR to show her how to set up, because she had told the trainee the wrong start time the day before. But does she take an "OK, just go with it." approach? NO way! She insists that we make the new hire sit in the corner for 30 minutes while I show her how to set up, which includes showing her how to use the phones she will be training people to use. "HOW long have you worked here?", I thought, "6 YEARS? And this is the FIRST location you learned? This is going to be a fun day."

So we plug on through the day, and luckily my trainee is super bright and catches on very quickly. Then for the last portion of the day, I put the trainee on the phones answering calls and ask "name withheld" to plug in her headset to listen in and help her along. She looks at the phone jack. She looks at the phone. She looks at me. She tries to plug the phone jack into a small round hole for headphones a couple times, then looks at me and asks, "Does the square one go in the round one?"

At least you know that there is one more quality CM in your area since you said the trainee was picking up on this quickly. Unfortunately, with that new trainer, it could be a while before there are new quality ones.

You should have told her "YES" Everyone else can do it!!

And see how long it took for her to figure it out!

(tell her that it was a suprise check point to see if she could figure out square and round!)

Those TRS and RJ-11 jacks and plugs are sooooo confusing! :D:

No kidding! Thank god for the trainee. Had I had a trainee who needed a lot of hand-holding, I don;t think I would have made it through the day.

No, that's a trainee. The trainer is the person who RUNS the train! :D:
