So yesterday about 1030, I get a call from a guest who is EXTREMELY upset and DEMANDS to speak to a manager "because her friends are at the park and a cast member told them that they couldn't bring their lunch into the park because avocado and cheese did not make a sandwich, and they needed to put HAM on it." I asked guest to explain the situation to me and to let me see what I could do with it.

After I got some more info from the guest on the phone, I also took guest's phone number and name down to call her back, then went out to the bag check tent to find this guest's group and find out exactly what the heck happened. I find group just outside bag check, and they are sitting just outside the patio for LaBrea Bakery. I ask them who told them what, and then go to find the cast member that supposedly told them this.

Turns out group at bag check tent is vegetarian, and brought with them a bunch of avocados and some cheese, along with an ENTIRE LOAF of bread, and a SHARP cutting knife. Cast Member at the bag check told guest that they would need to either MAKE THE SANDWICHES BEFORE ENTERING THE PARK because the knife was not allowed in, or dispose of the knife by either throwing it out or putting it back in the car.

The problem with this whole situation was that CM at bag check was Asian, and guests with the knife were Hispanic, and guests were not fluent in english, which caused a language problem, where the guest did not understand what the CM requested of them, and were upset because the CM "made them throw out their lunch!"

We finally got to the bottom of the story, guest came in the park and was given a NSA for lunch.

One of the ticket taker leads was out there by this time and explained to me that this group had been out there since 745 that morning, and had originally tried to get into the park with one of those wire baskets that you pull that are like 4 feet tall, and it was full of food.. Mind you, this is for a family of 5 persons- 2 adults, 3 kids, and not one of them was over 7 years old- were they going to move in for the week, or what??

Wow, that's just... wow.

I have to admit, part of me worried that the accusation about needing ham on the sandwich was true, and it would turn out that the guest family was Jewish...

I should have eaten breakfast.

Wow, they were going to bring in all that food to sit in the hot sun
I have been known years ago to bring in a plastic knife, rice cakes and peanut butter for the kids, and then rent a locker so I wouldn't have to drag it around all day. I do not find security to be very hard-core, although they were eyeing my mascara suspiciously last weekend...shiny silver case caught their attention, I suppose
One funny thing, security CM was asking all of us during bag check if we had cookies because he was hungry! :p:

You could always have some chocolate covered bacon (some store in Santa Cruz sells it) The perfect food in my opinion. :D:

LOL...we musta had the same CM last fall. Seriously we had one ask us that...TOO FUNNY. The only thing the CM's ever questioned was one of our cameras. It was a 110 (yes I still have one and use it) and the young guy didnt know what it was and when he asked we told him a camera. He didnt believe us I guess cause he kinda motioned another guy closer (older) and he just looked real quick and waved us thru with a little smile. You could tell he was trying not to laugh. Donnie and I werent that sucessful in holding it back. ;) It was pretty funny.

Dang!! That's the kind of stuff that makes me embarrassed to be Hispanic!! I can see MY family (not immediate family) bringing in a whole loaf of Wonder bread (no, Bimbo bread!), meats, mayo, whole bags of chips, paper plates, etc, AND NOT SPENDING THE MONEY ON A LOCKER!!! Yeah, I can see it now, draging that stuff around all day until they find a shady tree in an area they shouldn't be stitting, or worse yet, at a table at the Plaza Inn, when they didn't even buy their lunch there!!! Yeah, I can see it all now.

I have often had this very conversation with another Hispanic CM in my area about our families. She tells her family all the time not to come in the park this way and embarrass her. We laugh about how similar our families are. It's like George Lopez is describing my family in his comedy routine.

TT

Dude... you'd have to be way young not to know a 110 Camera. I'm only 23 and I had one for years as a kid, got it in 95. Still have it someplace...

wow - that's awesome. I love everything having to do with bag check and the picnic area/lockers. The concerns that come out of that area are always fantastically funny. This one's a keeper!

It won't be too long before we hear, "'Film'??? What's 'film'? Wait, how do you spell that? F-I-L-M. Huh. Never heard of it. Hang on, I'm looking it up on Wikipedia."
