Car Insurance stupidity

OK..background first... We cancelled our car insurance with one company to go with another that was cheaper. So since we cancelled a mere 5 days before our policy ended we got slapped with a 25$ fee. Alright, I can live with that since that is their policy but GEEZ LOUISE let me at least get a chance to write out the check and put it in the mail before you start sending me threatening letters.

Within, and I am not kidding, a week and a 1/2 after cancelling we had recieved 2 letters. The first asking for payment (at one week ) and the second (5 days later)demanding payment immediately or they would be forced to immediately send us to a collection agency. OK...now you have pissed me off for being so pushy. Mind you we had been customers of theirs for over 6 years with no late payments --well maybe 1 or 2 a few days late --but paid in full every time. So...when you push Vixen's rudeness buttons I am not happy paying you and will make it as hard on you as possible to collect. I actually had the money budgeted to pay them in full for the next paycheck to get it out of the way ASAP.

So being the smart ass that I am ...I sent them the included bill and a check not for $25 but for 25 CENTS. Hey, no where in the threatening letter did it say I had to pay in full in one payment. ;)

I sent it out on Tuesday of last week and they actually had cashed the check. It cleared in my bank by Tuesday of this week(the 13th)
Yesterday, I got a letter from them with the following.

We recieved a payment postmarked 5-6-08 for $0.25, from you on the above policy. We cannot process this payment because your policy with ******* has been cancelled and is outside of the reinstatement period. Please contact us to start another policy.

If you do not call us within one week from the date on this letter, we will send your payment back to you by check from ******. We sill also deduct any amount that you may already owe us on any previously cancelled policy.

TY..blah blah..we look forward to doing business with you

OK..prior to this they wouldnt talk to me since the policy was in Donnie's name but since the check was in my name and with my siggy, guess who they gotta talk to now and VIXEN IS NOT A HAPPY CAMPER. DUDE, you accepted my payment by cashing my check and contradict yourself in the letter (see bolded parts) I am going to have soooooo much fun with this one. I figure it this way, if they send the check back ..I will send it back to them and if they keep sending it back, I will send them lower denominations each time. Wht do you all think about 25 checks each time for 1 CENT each.? Dont matter to me, I get points toward stuff for each check cashed (pays for gas cards for our WDW trip) and I dont pay for my checks. HEHEHEHE!

That is funny that they would do that, charge you for cancelling a policy.

Just be careful that they don't report your non-payment to a credit reporting agency.

I don't believe that they have to accept any amount less than the amount due, because you have no payment agreement with them that says you can make smaller payments.

in other words, they could mess with you right back, and possibly affect your credit rating.

just and FYI and caution.

Thats wierd that they charged you a fee for cancelling. I would be looking at all the paperwork from them to see if there is something in your policy that agrees to that!

(SGg's at an insurance company,...who knew?)

OK, so why didn't they just let your policy lapse instead of going through all the trouble of charging you and billing you? It seems that they are taking some sort of revenge on you for cancelling even before the 25 cent check, and now are just making stuff up as they go along.
Maybe a call to your local TV consumer reporter is in order.

But since they cashed the check, that says they accepted the payment. *confused* LMMEO...like it's gonna matter for $25 more on my credit anyway.

They said that since it was already processed that way there was nothing they could do. Of course Donnie was the one that called them to cancel and just agreed to whatever they said. We called back(me on the phone along with Donnie) told them originally to just reinstate it for the days left (6 to be exact) then we would not renew. "we cant do that, it already shows up cancelled." It was the matter of 3 minutes later. Oy!

The part that got me was the deduct any amount that you owe on any previously cancelled policy DUh! that is what we were paying on. Hey I figure, no problem, keep cashing the checks and sending me back the amount...More gas gift cards for me. I get 25 points from my bank for each check I write and each one I cash...11,000 points gets me a half a tank of gas LOL Shoot if I send a bunch and they cash them, I can upgrade to a deluxe with the extra money for Sept. :D: The bank loved us when we payed off the credit card in Feb. $1000 worth of checks split up into 15 or so payments. LOL...Might as well take advantage for the gas prices. LOL

Beeeeecause they wanted more money. **shrug** I know...6 freakin days. yeesh..I keep telling Donnie not to agree to anything over the phone unless I hear the details.

I am waiting today till Meghyn goes to sleep to call them. Let's see, Monday looks like it will be a mail out day regardless. How many 1 cent checks make up $25?

Like I am ever gonna recommend them to anybody. hmmppf. Dimwits. We have a new car (and renter's) insurance thru Donnie's work and it covers more and is also $10 less a month cheaper for both instead of just the car.

Well....Apparently they just like to waste paper and stamps at this place. I got thru but they still wouldnt talk to me since my name wasnt on their records. >>>sigh Had to 3 way (which I finally figured out today how to use after 2.5 years of having it) with Donnie at work and he verbally gave permission to talk to me. Good lord, I could have been 3 waying anyone that had Donnie's last 4 digits of his SS# LOL yeah great security ya got there.

Anyway, explained the stich and she said that the letter was an automatic thing sent out when you pay and the payment was accepted. SOOOO...in other words everytime I send in a payment, they are going to kill another tree and ensure a postal worker keeps his or her job. Maybe I can use them all as wallpaper or to wrap fish in.

So now you all know that ******car insurance company is not eviromentally friendly and likes to make sure there is less unemployment.

I'm gonna take my time paying this now since I had to waste 10 minutes of my life on the phone to find this out. Or maybe I will send it all in at once but in LOTS AND LOTS of very small increments. HEHEHEHE! Hey I need the bank points. :D:

roflmao!

I've got one for you. Eight years ago we cancelled the Cingular cell phone account my husband had and they gave me a hard time. The following month we got a bill for $.74. I refused to pay them another penny. They still send a statement every month!!! We figure even with the discount presort postage they've spent at least $50 trying to colect that $.74. And they must have a really crappy system that they haven't written that off in 8 years.
