Going to DL in a few weeks....

Hi folks,

Okay, so this WDW CM is going to DL for the first time since she was four only a few scant weekends from now. Beyond it being way smaller than WDW and that Space Mountain and Splash Mountain are very different, there is little that I know about DL or DCA. So, I am calling on your fine CMs from the West Coast to help me out? I'm planning on spending a full day at the parks on a Sunday. Any tips or tricks...or definetely "not to be missed" attractions/dining experiences? I'm so used to WDW dining ridiculousness where I have to book extremely early for everything...is that the same at DL?

I'm trying hard to not break down an buy an Unofficial Guide so your help is greatly appreciated!! :o)

thanks!

I'm not a West Coaster but just did the Backstage Magic Adventure By Disney out there. My trip report is at: http://barbnefer.blogspot.com

We live right by WDW, but I must admit that DL's Space Mountain tops ours by a landslide! I'm not always a fan of music on coasters, but it so totally works on SM.

You MUST do Indy too, and as you ride it, imagine how good Dinosaur could have been.

We saw long lines for Nemo most of the time, but my husband went there late when the park was open till midnight and only waited 25 mins.

Have a great time!

Be There at Opening, go straight to Adventureland and ride Indy, Pirates, HM,
then to Frontierland for BTMRR. Make ressies for Carnation Cafe or Cafe Orleans ASAP Buy Trader pins either at Disneystore or the Park (7/30.00) and trade as many pins as you can. Go to Tomorrowland and get Fastpasses for Space mountain or go on if line is short. Ride Buzz Lightyear or Star Tours and Go to Nemo alternate viewing. Go back to Frontierlandand see Billy Hill and the Hillbillies, eat there if you don't want to lose any time or then go to your Lunch. After 1:30 pm go to Pin Trade with cast members again at Pin Shops for even better pins. Go To California Adventure and ride Soarin', Tower of Terror and go to Aladdin Show and Turtle Talk with Crush. It will now be about 5:30, so Don't forget to buy your candy at the shops. If you have more time and energy (and money) Get dinner at somewhere in DCA, see Electrical Parade (Do we have time to go back to DL for Fantasmic/Fireworks?) Go back to Hotel and collapse. :)

Don't forget stop at Plaza Inn and see Purpura, then at Storybook Land to meet Lady Ulrike.

Disney mom knows her Disneyland, she pretty much hit it. at DCA taste pilots for burgers, or if you have time we like Storyteller cafe in the grand californian, or Goofy's Kitchen at DL hotel (GK is character dining) If you like character dining, the Minnie and friends breakfast on main street is great, try to book first thing in the morning so you have tiem for attractions, but its a buffet so it will slow you down a lot, if your not doing it then eat breakfast before you go to the parks and lunch at 11:00 am. Make sure your there when the park opens also. Skip Downtown Disney, its all about the parks.
Take your time and have fun.

Yeah, but he does have trouble finding people at the parks. Something about wearing the wrong shirt and being there at the wrong time? I know Main Streeter would love to tell us the full story if she ever checks back in again. :)

Ah, Disneyland. Despite now residing eight miles east of Spaceship Earth, I was a Disneylander first. My first visit was on my fourth birthday. I remember it well. Castles, trains, pirate ships--that flew! Even Walt was real then, as I spotted him walking through Fantasyland with a gaggle of kids.

My short list of must-dos: Indiana Jones, Pirates of the Caribbean, Pinocchio's Daring Journey, Space Mountain, Matterhorn, Storybook Canal Boats or Casey Jr., Small World is closed, but see if the clock is working. Subs if you need to, but the show is basically the same as The Seas w/Nemo etc.

At DCA: Golden Dreams (closing soon), the Animation Exhibit, Aladdin the Musical. Dinner at the Vinyard Room, equal to Narcoossee's IMHO. A Bug's Land if time permits. Screamin' only if you really need to be inverted. Sun Wheel only if you really need to be bored.

Want a breakfast without screaming children? Try Granville's at the DL Hotel. Tres classy, and faster than a character buffet.
