OMG! A new stupid comment

I went into the grocery store early this morning (I work 6a-12 on Sundays) and got a new *I think* stupid Disney comment...

The checker, an older lady, asked me if we were going to WDW again any time soon (Yes we are that freakish! LOL) and I told her yes, 29 days and that we couldn't wait. She then went into this speel about how Disney is one of the biggest polluters in the world, and about why anyone would want to give them money was beyond her.

HUH? Does anyone have a good response for something like that?? All I said was "oh well...it's Disney, I couldn't care less"

Asking for details and evidence usually slows them down.

Actually we are incredibly environmentally friendly. All of our trash is sorted for recyclables. 1/3rd of the the land in Florida will never be developed. And many of our hotels have been certified under the green lodging initiative as reducing their impact on the environment. So take that!
;)
Have a good trip and be sure to stop by The Land, or wherever I am, to visit!

I have to agree with Hobie and CmGuy

I would ask her here she got the data, what web page, what published book and government study!!

Of course if I am in pirate mode, I'd probably juut go with: Good, that way all the landlubber tree huggers will stay away and let me have fun!!!!!

CMGuy..that would be awesome! We'll have to connect as the time gets closer. :)

And I wish I had had a snazzier comeback, but I was still half asleep. I did ask her, she said it was out in a HUGE study a few years ago. And I have to agree..more Disney for me! lol

And of course, some initiatives meet resistance from the front lines... At DCA North, WOD, and Main Street East, we don't typically use bubble wrap to cushion mugs and snowglobes and other breakables that Guests purchase. Instead, we use something known as the Geämi Protective Packaging System, which when properly applied cushions better than bubble wrap, and is more environmentally friendly than bubble wrap since it's 100% paper from "sustainable forestry certified fibers" rather than plastic. Someone properly trained can wrap most items using the Geämi System without any tape, which is a contrast to the copious amounts of tape used by some to wrap using conventional methods.

On the other side of the street, in Emporium, Geämi was abandoned in favor of conventional wrapping materials like tissue and bubble wrap because the dispenser needed for the Geämi System supposedly "kept breaking." I personally suspect Cast Member resistance to new methods and an unwillingness to learn, leading to poorly trained personnel improperly reloading the machine. Most of the mishaps I've seen involving Geämi machines were due to improper loading of the paper causing jams. One loaded Geämi machine can wrap many more items than an equivalent volume of bubble wrap.

The last time we were there, we bought some "breakables" and they used that system. Then they mailed it for us! Everything arrived in perfect condition! PLUS, when we unwrapped at home, the stuff went into the recycle bin, no problem!!

Not only is that a stupid comment, it is downright unnecessary as you are a guest at their place of business. I would have either a.) just walked out without my groceries and without paying or b.) told her that speaking to a guest in such a way is inappropriate and then asked to see a manager. But then, working at Disney has given me low tolerance of poor guest service.

I would have but it was 5:30 in the morning, I was buying 2 doughnuts and a 20 oz choco milk, and this woman is just coarse. She's been there for 10 years(?) and that is just her personality. The anti-disney comment just floored me.

Usually, I'm really vocal about bad service, as i used to be a customer service manager at a couple of different grocery stores and small walmart type places. There isn't much that I put up with, but this just wasn't worth it.

Now the crap I put up with a Wal-mart a few weeks ago, that got my full attention, and they weren't happy with me.
