Sick Food?

It's day 5 of me vs. the Flu. I'm still not quite right for going out and being social, but I can sit up, walk about the house, and complete easy chores. The fever and chills are gone but now I just have nasal congestion, cough, sore throat, and overall a slight wooziness. Been grazing on various soups over the last few days - cream of mushroom, tomato, homemade chicken noodle - and drinking my weight in water and orange juice.

Anybody wanna give input as to what you use or have used as "sick foods"?

I need to get better ASAP. I go back to work on Monday. I really don't wanna call in.

RUM??

whiskey and honey?

Chicken Noodle RUM soup?

Nyquil with a RUM chaser?

Sorry, I don't know of any magic combination. Like my doctor said, over the counter meds, chicken soup, and bed rest!

As far as getting the yuck out... It's gross, but it works.

I am not a doctor! I am not a doctor! I am not a doctor!

Boil fresh peeled ginger root (kinda whack it to release the juices) for 10 minutes. It should smell gingery. Drink a cup of that. This will hurt your mouth... I know I'm really selling you on it. Then chase it with a clove of whole peeled garlic. Chew it, swallow it and start drinking water. Drink at least 16 oz of water as soon as possible after that. Keep up with lots of water.

Repeat 2 of 3 times a day. At first you will swear death is better. But you will be amazed at how great you feel after. GIve it like 30 minutes.

Basically ginger is opens everything up and garlic is a natural antiseptic.

If you can't handle it, and lots can't... try toast, applesauce and soup. Grilled cheese. The BRAT diet is a good rule... Bananas, Rice, Applesauce & Toast

Tons of water and rest.

Oh and a humidifer if ya got one.

Wonder if the rum will cause a reaction to june's garlic and ginger potion...

I'm desperate enough to try all those ideas. But please, do keep em coming.

Just used some Theraflu about 2 hours ago.

My parents could always tell when I wasn't feeling well (back when I was young and stupid enough to not want to stop playing for a silly little sickness). I would simply stop eating. When I am unwell I stop eating, and sleep long and frequent. But along with my very robust immune system I just go to sleep and stay asleep for 16+ hours. I have even been known to sleep 24-30 hours straight. But when I wake up I'm fine. I also seem to be able to schedule my "sick days" for only on my weekends. So I have taken a grand total of 4 days of sick leave inthe last 20 years. And that was all in one week where I felt fine but was running a temp of 102-104.

As to what my "first meal when recovered", I personally crave mac n cheese. My mother always went with toast and hot tea. My sister wanted chicken noodle soup. And I think my father went with beef or chicken boulion soup.

I always do the chicken noodle soup, my very own home made recipe and it never fails. Lots of rest and sleep and Disney movies. Chamomile Tea is great. Put some honey and fresh squeezed lemon juice in it and drink while it is hot, hot, hot! Then cuddle under the covers with a warm kittycat or puppy if you have one. :)

Also sometimes a really hot bath will help you sweat the germies away. It feels great too, just to soak in a hot bathtub or a hot tub and makes ya sleepy so you can get your rest!

Mucinex helped alot with the congestion when I was sick with that crud I caught last trip at DL! It is powerful stuff tho and will make you feel weird and dizzy and very sleepy. I recommend the lower dose one, I think it is 300 mg. The stronger one is like 600 or 650 and is just way too strong.

Get well, kid! Rest up, you need your energy for the SGs and of course to smile at all the nice folks! :D:
