Stupid Guest Tricks

Here on Maui we see sea turtles, whales, spinner dolphins, all kinds of fish, etc. Today's sighting was really neat. I do a lot of biking. When I'm going through the pine fields I usually see a few mongooses crossing the road. I saw a mongoose today but something wasn't quite right. It was then I realized she had three babies following her across the road. When they realized I was getting closer, mom and the first baby kept going but the second one turned around and was followed by the third back into the brush.

I pedaled past and stopped twenty feet away to see what would happen. The mom and first baby came out and went back across the road to pick up the other two. It was a pretty neat experience.

We have these little itty bitty guys in the orchid garden. If you sit and listen you can hear them chirping very softly.

Every once in a while one will end up in the pool. I'll fish 'em out and put them back in the garden.

Yup!

Hawaii is full of rats which some idiot decided could be exterminated by mongooses, lol. Mongoose, snakes and rats not native to Hawaii but survive.

Yes, and Rikki-Tikki-Tavi was the title of the book, by Rudyard Kipling. It was based on his experiences growing up as a child of a British army officer when Britian ruled India, where they were living.


Another story, not by Kipling, that originated in India, was Little Black Sambo. This story was made up by a lady with two young daughters who were riding on a train through India. To entertain her daughters, this lady made up the story; at that time the British called anyone with dark skin, regardless of origin, black. I remember the Sambo's restaurants, pancake houses actually, and ate in one once. I remember the walls had lighted pictures with illustrations from the story, and they are clearly Indian. I mean, the kid was wearing a turban, for goodness sake! Unfortunately,the term Sambo has been used as a racial slur against persons of African origin, which is inaccurate. Why do people do that? It's stupid.

WOW, I remember growing up, we had that book that was read to us. It had illustrations that show the tiger with the shoes on his ears, and so on! But the pictures I remember, Sambo was depicted distinctly as a small boy of african decent! Wierd!

I remember the Sambos chain!! best pancakes ever!!

AS to racial slurs, people will use whatever they can to belittle someone else, and to make themselves feel better. I guess that would make them the Ultimate Stupid Guest (or Stupid person!)
