I'm a mess...

I just got a call from my mom. Apparently one of our rescue dogs who we haven't had for more than six months woke up this morning with a lump and limp on her leg. My mom took her immediately to the vet who diagnosed her with aggressive bone cancer. My mom took her the oncologist and it doesn't look promising. I never thought it would hurt this much, I barely know this dog but I can stop sobbing. She and her brother were abused dogs and were rescued. It is horrible that this is the first loving home they have had and now she may be dead in less than a year. Our poor Honeysue... My mom at this point has decided to take her home, drug her to high heaven, and spoil her rotten for her remaining days. My mom who was never much of a dog person is just heartbroken... She wasn't this upset when her father died because it was expected and his time. This dog is only 4 or 5 years old and her brother is already looking sad at the prospect of life without his sister. I've decided to forego my sign language class because I now have a migraine from sobbing. I wish I could fly to WDW right now and forget about all of this...

I am so sorry CMGuy89.

I wish you could fly to WDW and forget about it too.

This may sound silly, but I just can't stop thinking it...

At least you gave her and her brother a good life for the duration you had her. She knows what it is liked to be loved and that is all any living thing ever really wants. You and your family gave to her.

I hope you can find comfort in that.

Be well

Oh, I am SO sorry to hear this.

Our cat had a lump pop up behind his ear a couple months ago and I was panic stricken until we got to the vet and found out he was going to be okay.
I can only imagine what your mom is going through, I've lost pets before of various ages and it never matters how long you have them you always want them to live forever.

(((((((((((((((((CM GUY))))))))))))))))))))))

hugs and understanding- crying along with you!

Very sorry to hear that, CM Guy. :(
It sounds like your mom will be taking excellent care of your dog. It must be very hard because to me, pets are family.

When I first read the subject, I was going to post that maybe you needed to change your pants, but upon reading further, sorry about the news :(

I agree with your mom, spoil em rotten and let the pup have a good time.

Too bad you can't take her to WDW, she'd love all the fun things to sniff!

I've adopted several rescue greyhounds and lost one to bone cancer and another to a large cancerous abdominal growth, so I know what you're going through, CMGuy. It's very painful and it will take time, and lots of it, before it fades even slightly. I hope you will consider getting another adoptee to keep your other dog company. They do so much better in pairs than living alone.
Take June1st's words to heart - you gave the dog a loving home and more good care than she would have had in her old home. At least when it's her time to go she will be surrounded with love, and you and your Mom will know you've done all you can for her.

It's always hard to lose a furry friend... She was loved and that is the most important thing...

When I walk to catch the bus to go to work or come home I always pass a house with a large black dog, and a cocker spaniel. Turns out yesterday when I was coming home I saw a puppy and his mom in the yard as well as the daughter of the elderly lady home owner. The puppy was 3 months old and running around playing chase with the granddaughter of the home owner. When I stopped to talk and see the puppy the daughter talked to me a bit, said the large black dog which had been having health issues had passed away yesterday. They were sad about it, but life goes on... The puppy was silly chasing after the granddaughter (3 years old), and then went inside with her.

I'll miss seeing the black dog sitting outside in the shade, but I know the puppy will be good company for his mom.

Thanks for the kind thoughts everyone. I've been feeling better after a nap but I could really use a dole whip right about now...

Or maybe a Mickey bar, eh? Wish I could send one to you.

It's tough losing a pet of any kind. They do become a member of the family and even though they can't talk, they do show emotions. I still think back to the turtles, birds and dogs that were pets and miss them all.
