Stupid Ticket Guests

Today, around 10am four guys came up to my gate. First one put his ticket in the reader and finger in the scanner and I got back an "Identification Fails" message. I looked at the ticket and it showed today's date on it. This is unusual, as normally the first time a ticket is used it is just about impossible to get an ID Fails message, as it is doing the initial scan to store.

I asked the user if it was the same finger he had used the first time. He said that a friend had given him the ticket. He, and the SG next to him, both gave me their tickets to look at. In response to a question of mine, they said the friends had already used the tickets!

Anyway, I asked someone to cover my turnstiles and I took the tickets over to the Coordinator and told him what had happened. His response was the tickets are non-transferable and revocable, and these needed to be revoked. I went back to the guests and told them that as the tickets were not transferable and they had been, they were being revoked.

The two guys asked for the tickets back and I told them no.

I saw the two of them, and two other guys, go over and stand off to the side of one of the ticket booths, and one of the was on a cell phone. I spotted a Security Officer outside the gates down the row and asked one of the survey people to get me that SO ASAP. Not only did the uniformed SO come over, but so did a Security Supervisor. I told them quickly what had happened and pointed out the group to them.

I later noticed them, as well as a Security Manager, talking to the guys but never found out the results. When I got a chance I then turned the tickets in to the Coordinator, who went into the system to kill the tickets with an explanation, so the original people could not get them reissued. He told me he would turn them in to a Guest Services Manager later.

What I, and some other CMs thought was interesting was these two had been stupid enough to tell me they had gotten these seven day hoppers from friends and they had already been used today by other people.

These guys will end up in Darwin Awards someday. Whew. The stupidity of some people never fails to make me gasp. I mean, really. They told you they had been used by someone else and expected what????
Awwww... Look at the SGs, aren't they cute little creatures in their natural habitat?

I tip my hat to you. Good job! I guess the SG's were living up to their label!! The nice thing was that they were dumb enough to admit the fraud right up front!!

Wow, talk about stupid. You would have thought that the guys who had originally used the ticket would have figured out that was the reason why their fingerprints were taken when they got off the gate. They're probably from out west and more used to Disneyland, where we don't do the Ticket Tag thing.

Though this got me thinking that's OT, but still related. I remembered that when I visited WDW and used my Maingate, they gave me a ticket without taking my fingerprint (my parents did have to submit fingerprints, though), but when I re-entered or park hopped, the turnstile accepted my ticket and fingerprint (and for the record, it isn't on file with Disneyland, or at least I don't think it is). Does anyone know what's up with that?

I didn't know that. I thought that if I got (for example) a 5 day pass park hopper and I went to MK for the morning, but decided I didn't want to go out that evening I could let my friends go instead. Interesting.

So what happens to the original buyer? do they get their tickets back? Or are they just out the money?

The tickets say non-transferable and the ticket is keyed to the finger scan of the original user, so that's why the original user's friends couldn't use the tickets.
Yeah, what does happen - are the tickets confiscated and destroyed, or can the original owner get them back, with a stern warning not to "share" them again?

According to the OP the tickets were revoked and note put into the system to not reissue them. Sounds to me that the original purchaser is SOL, at least in this case.

There are two different sets of "rules" concerning MGPs. One is for Florida Site Cast (WDW, DVC, DCL, WDI,and Participants). The other is for spouses of FSR and all others (DLR, WDC, ABCTV, etc).

For FSR if by themselves they can use their ID card in any turnstile. If bringing Guests they use the "Cast Turnstile". We check the MGP against the ID, including the photo (temp IDs without photo we must also see a photo ID). We then run the MGP though the turnstile (or scan the bar code) the number of times needed for the total number in the group. Each time one person comes through the turnstile.

Everyone except the CM gets a re-entry/hopper pass which is good for re-entry, hopping, and also getting FastPasses. The CM uses their ID Card for any re-entry, hopping or FastPasses. No finger scans are done on original entry, but if there is a re-entry or hopping, any turnstile can be used and a finger scan is done at that time, including for children 3-9.

For spouses and all others, the cardholder also gets a re-entry/hopper pass for themselves.

However, all this is in the process of changing. There is an experiment in place right now at MK where a finger scan will be done for each person as they enter and the turnstile itself will print the re-entry/hopper ticket for each Guest. This ticket will automatically be linked to the finger scan of the Guest.

For more detail on the new procedures click here but if you don't have Hub access the link may not work.

Many people just are unable to figure out how a multi day ticket works and are unable to hear or read the warning that the ticket is for a single individual and is not transferable. It is amazing how many people still believe that a 7 day ticket is simply 7- 1 day tickets that can either allow one person 7 days or 7 people 1 day. I have even heard of a few reports that a few idiot TAs actually tell their customers that!
