OT Sims 2

How do people get thier sims to do stuff like this?

I bought Sims 2 but can't figure out how to get them to dance and sing like other people do. all mine do is stand around, pick thier noses and glare at me. looking at thier AI scripts I do see they all went into resent mode thou. maybe they want something I am not providing.

If you want your Sims to do what you want, you have to give them what they want. Be nice to them, fulfill their aspirations, get them in a good mood. If you buy them a stereo, they can dance to it, and if you take them Downtown (which is an expansion pack) you can have them sing karaoke. Just play with them; you'll find things to do!

so, I should treat my Sims like they are at Disney?
I already got them the NightLife package, but they are just getting gothy and now the vampires are after them...
