I finally did it...

Post by BirdMom » Tue Oct 14, 2003 12:43 pm

All those years at the park worrying that some large person would fall on me and cause me to break a bone, or that I would fall and break a bone in some odd place inside a show building...

I was ushering a play in the campus theater at Fullerton College - thinking back to Bear Band - watching for flash pictures, potty breaks, etc...anyway, it was the end of the show, and I was walking from the back row to the aisle to direct the customers out of the theater. I forgot there was a step (just like the back of the house in Bear Band...), tripped, lost my balance and landed on the side of my right foot, bouncing twice. Yep, I broke my foot. The school finally got me where Disneyland never did. I'm still trying to find out how to get a temporary handicapped parking tag, along with figuring out how I'm going to navigate my classes after I get my permanant cast. NO big deal - scene painting, costume construction, painting in the fine art department (easles and all) and one normal class where you sit and take notes during lectures. Sigh...

OK, I'm back...

I broke my foot on a Friday night and we moved into our new house the following week. My husband just got around to setting the computer back up for me (mind you, the scanner and printer aren't hooked up yet).

Anyway, thanks for asking Weeble, I'm doing better now. Off the crutches, anyway. Walking like a Quasimodo (old school Quasi) imitator, dragging the right leg around. Got a new x-ray, the bone is growing back, and the cast might come off in another 2 weeks if all goes well. However, at that time, I get some sort of stiff boot (I imagine it's going to be like a ski binding). Hopefully, it will be all better by X-mas. As far as the house, because I've been somewhat limited to what I can do, we're pretty much still 50% in boxes. It's been a pain. I'm kind of sort of back in school now, as well. Just kicking myself for not paying attention - too much to do, and all that jazz...

I can see I will have a lot of reading to do here - unfortunately, that coincides with my having a lot of catching up on writing papers and all... guess all those fun posts y'all have been adding while I've been "away" will have to wait...

Aye, you have to unpack and such with a broken bone....That sucks. Though this does remind me how I got a 2nd degree burn because of my shattered wrist (which was in a cast). I learned hot nacho cheese sauce and a shattered wrist don't go well together.

RIP Bud Hurlbut.

You will be missed.

Great to see you back up and about... and back online. It hasn't been the same without you. Get better soon.

flat visions of misty places,
fragments bound below my surface,

they flow from me,
inscribed but now unbound,
I touch them,
and they are real,
and they are real."
