Maybe the sweater irritates his naked skin. Perhaps someone can make him some soft flannel pajamas.drcorey wrote:Here is a picture of my Hairless Pussy,

Whoever discovered this hairless trait and bred it into an actual breed of cat should be shot. You know not everyone is going to give this type of cat the very warm environment it needs.
(Nothing personal, drcorey)

He is cute though. do you have to "treat" his skin for irritation or take special care because of his condition?

Re: For The People Who Thought I was Joking
This breed was bred particularly for people who wanted to have a cat, but were allergic to the hair. BUT, It is not the hair that they are actually allergic to, but an enzyme in their saliva that causes the allergy to the *cat*. I have heard that not having the fur helps to shed this enyzme faster because with the fur, the saliva just dries on it and the enzymes stay on the fur. This was a way for people who love cats to be able to have one without resorting to allergy meds or even dying because of the cat!
For me, the joy of holding or cuddling with a kitty is the soft fur, thus I have two longhairs, one an Angora. I am more sensitive to the fur(saliva enzymes) of my short haired Flame Point Siamese (a cross between a Siamese and a domestic White Shorthair) Holding him makes me itch and my eyes water. But not the Angora! I love all cats, but I don't think I could have a hairless one, because I just love the fur!

I do not have time but there is a breed called the Sphynx that is hairless.
The Munchkin breed of cat is a regular cat with very short legs.

Interesting, we have a friend who has Angora cats, and she says she is allergic to any other kind. I had heard that about the Angoras, but didn't realize it was their kitty spit and really not the fur!!susislicker wrote:This breed was bred particularly for people who wanted to have a cat, but were allergic to the hair. Actually, this trait of hairlessness comes out on its own. Not every off the wall trait is caused by human meddling. The first Sphynx was found in a litter of normal kittens, as was the Scottish Fold, etc., etc.. One in every 50,000 cats does not have the enzyme in the saliva that causes allergies.
Sphynxes and other naked or near naked breeds produce oil from their skin, and need to be bathed once or twice a week with cat shampoo. Alot of people put a small, toddler/baby size T-shirt on their kitties. And don't forget the heated cat beds! Check out Doctors Foster and Smith; they have lots of stuff like that.
Indoors is better for cats anyway; the average indoor cat lives well into its teens, twenties and even thirties (the record is 38), while the average outdoor cat doesn't usually live past 6 or so.
Also, if you want to learn more about the various cat breeds, check out http://www.catchannel.com, they have a bar on the left side that includes cat breeds. But there's more on the site to enjoy, as well.
