Help! (Various CM Questions)

Anyway, as you might know, I would like to put in for a transfer to another department as soon as my probation is up (see my GR transfer thread a while back).
I decided to shelve that idea because, when I talked to my management about the idea, they said I had to wait until 6 months had passed since I was still a new hire.
Anyway, just to make sure, I visited Casting recently, where they told me that it was 4 months for everyone, including new hires.
This means that either my managers are misinformed about company policy (which I think is the case), or are basically trying to discourage me from transferring (which I could understand - a lot of people have quit recently, so I'm sure they would like to try and stem the outflow of people).
However, this is my personal decision, and while they might not approve of it, I would expect my managers to act in accordance with company policy and approve my application.
Anyway, does anyone have any ideas how I should approach this when I submit my application next month? I don't want to be overly confrontational, since I do have to continue working with them until the transfer becomes effective (not to mention the whole "don't burn your bridges" concept).
Is there a copy of the company's policy somewhere which I can wave around if need be?

I was under the impression that it was 6 months also. If it's now 4 months (and DL may be different from WDW) It's a new change and I'll go along with the theory that the managers just didn't know.
HR policies are on the portal, go to the HR section.
I'm of the opinion that waving company policy in someones face is the best way to burn your bridge.
I would approach it this way. Point out that you enjoyed working there but want to explore other options within the company. This point of view is the company philosophy, Disney encourages CM's to assume different roles within the company.

Now, I'm a big fan of the other angle: print out the company policy and put it in a very heavy binding (if it's still not very heavy, you can add a brick for extra weight--you're looking for a minimum weight of a pound or two). Once you've got your handy dandy Policy Display Unit in hand, simply stroll into work, chuck it at the offending manager's head, and leave, pausing at the door only long enough to flash the Australian sign for "F You" while shouting "Peace out, B*tch*s!"
Or there's the always the Scarface from Half Baked method: "F*ck you. F*ck you. F*ck you. You're cool! F*ck you, I'm out!"

See, once you add a stinkbomb, you've crossed the line... She said she doesn't want to burn any bridges! :D:
Edited to add: I didn't think about it before, but I wouldn't be shocked if you're right, Grumpy, and someone's actually done that before! Government workers are evil! (Reedited to add: okay, well, not all of us...I'm only a *little* evil.)

In 2002 Judy and I had decided on retirement dates from the government. I was going to retire on January 31, 2003 and let my boss know almost a year in advance, as I was in a good job with a good boss.
Judy worked as a computer specialist for part of Treasury, and hated the people. Her plan was to retire on January 3, 2003. She was planning to let her office know of her retirement plans on the late afternoon of January 3 when she would leave her ID Card and a note on her bosses desk.
Things got messed up in September 2002 when her office had a reorganization and they did not have a slot for her. So she was eligible for a buyout. For this her office had to be involved, as well as personnel. So she ended up letting them know, and retired on December 31, 2002 and got a $25,000 bonus for her cooperation with the Reduction in Force.

Well, let me start off with the most important issue here...
I'm a he :p: .
I'd use Kwahati's method, but I want to transfer, not quit and/or be fired/arrested, lol.
Though seriously, the issue here isn't that my managers are opposed (at least openly) to me transferring. On the surface, they're fine with the idea - it's just that they think I have to wait 6 months when I really have to wait 4. I'm trying to figure out how to explain that to them without causing grave offense.

I would do it all in a very friendly way, then if they ask for proof, get it ready and bring it back. If you have the proof ready, that shows them you expected them to not believe you, that you expected you would need it. If you wait a day and come back with the proof, then you should be set.
The other thing you could do is pose it as something where you just found out, you thought it was 6 months, too, and now you are *sharing* that info with them so they are up to date too, because they have so much they have to remember, something like that could be known to go by the wayside.

BW, you are so tactful and gracious. I hope when you eventually get into management that they don't ruin you. Please promise to remain your ol' sweet self, okay?
