Bitch and moan

I'm curious, do people in other departments besides bus driving bitch and moan constantly when they're not around guests? With about ten exceptions, I find myself avoiding most of my coworkers as much as I can because I don't want to hear them and their constant griping. The pay sucks (you knew that when you started), scheduling sucks (granted, this is true, but it's been covered enough), management sucks, the company sucks, the guests suck, the buses suck, the coordinators and leads suck, the roads suck, I'm sure the parks suck, Orlando sucks, all the non-bus-driving Cast Members suck, other drivers suck, bitch, bitch, bitch, moan, gripe, fart, gripe, moan. A manager or coordinator came to them to ask them to do something to help out and they're so proud that they "stood their ground" and said there was no way in hell they were going to cooperate. They would be so much happier driving a school bus.

Now mind you, I knew bus drivers had some of this, but so many of the drivers at Disney are among the worst I've ever seen.

So, I am curious, is it like that everywhere else? I've heard from one person I know that it's not. I would really like to hear agreement here, because I know that if I do, it's true agreement and you guys not trying to make me feel better about Disney. I like working here, and I spent today listening to drivers hoping another department would have much less of this one aspect. Granted, I expect some complaining from my coworkers, but not to the extent I have to hear it now.

I think most people vent on particularly bad guest days, but on the west coast there definitely are a few people who complain non-stop about everything. And they still show up every day for work...

Farting and Moaning, hmm, sounds like a after dinner party...

...and then you come here to hear our gripes!!! :D:

No, seriously, I understand. People like that can ruin your attitude and drag you down with them. Don't blame you for avoiding them.

An acquaintance of mine uses a phrase I love... She's one who goes out of her way to avoid negativity, saying "I'm not going to let it (him, her, them, etc.) steal my joy!"

It is not just Disney but a universal topic. You hear the waitress, nurse, lawyer, janitor, and fireman griping about the same stupid people doing the same stupid things just in a different location. Everyday I put up with mother's SG attacks and everyday the things she does to me is done by other SGs against workers in offices, highways, banks, schools, churches, and courts.

It is something people do all around the world it seems but some people are better with dealing with SGs or lucky enough to not run into them. A lot of people do not have a site like this one to vent and discuss SGs and human nature. You have learned a lot from here like how to laugh at SGs and how to reduce the impact of SGs on your life. In life there are some people who are born whiners like myself and they would complain where ever they were at.

Now for a big hugs for a big wallaby and I leave you with your favourite treats.

One of my past jobs was the training of systems engineers. My management determined we needed to develop a new course on what was basically, plant engineering. As it would have taken over two years to develop the expertise internally, I recommended we use contractors to teach the course. Management agreed.

The first three-week course was delivered. The students learned stuff and passed the test for certification. The three groups of contract instructors were happy with the results and looked forward to returning in a month.

The second class was a disaster. We had two clowns that sucked the life out of the room. The students were pissed and one of the instructors said he really didn’t want to come back.

The third class was a complete turn around. It was probably due to Vinnie. Vinnie is a New York Italian who believed life is a party and he was not going to miss any of them. He kept the room charged up during the day and took the class out on patrol every night. They found out where the instructors were staying and would drag them along. The class was a raging success. The same instructor who said he didn’t want to come back said he could never tell his wife about what they’d done.

My point is there negative and positive people in this world. The negs love to drag everyone else down. They are to be avoided like the plague. The positives are the ones to hang with. You’ll feel better about what you do, you’ll be healthier and you’ll love life.

In fact, what you should do when confronted with the bus driving downers tales of woe is point out good stuff. Ignore their bleats of negativity. Chase them through the halls with fun and light. They’ll either quiet down or possibly change their outlook on life. And, you’ll have fun doing it.

We have people that complain about everything. I *used* to be like that when I first started, but I grew out of it pretty quickly. We have a lot of people that no matter what will sit down in the break area and just bitch bitch bitch. There are a few that will seek out managers and coordinators and bitch bitch bitch. I think they are everywhere. I think most of us can be that person every now and then-- hell, we're on a website thats sole purpose is to vent our day (and shave marsupials :rufus: ).
There are of course some people that do nothing on stage, then come backstage and bitch about how hard it is or the weather or etc. It's gotta be everywhere at the World. Hell our CDS slips have to remind us to smile... if thats any indication of how unhappy some people are in our area. I heard some places at Epcot have The Basics on their CDS slips...

I didn't have much guest contact doing parades and shows so I really enjoyed my time on stage. I used to bitch and moan if it rained which meant boring time in the tunnel playing cards all day. If there was a chance of clearing up we had to be ready for the next show. If there was no chance we were given a free day. I used to beg to pull a Suzy or Perla and go join Cindy in the lobby of King Stefans. (It was still King Stefans when I was there.)

I was hired to perform and I hated it if I couldn't.

Well, I do know how much the other drivers complain but it's really not any worse than most other places. The biggest difference is the numbers. 250 drivers complaining is like 25 complaining in a 150 employee company.

To answer for another dept. I can tell you about something at MK on Tuesday night. It was a custodial CM bitching to another custodial CM about how the job, etc sucks and then he let loose on why they had to clean buses (Signal V). Big mistake, he was on the hill and Randy (MK relief coordinator)was up there preparing for a princess arrival.

I'm sure that the complainer won't bitch again abut his job (at least in the bus driver break area).

Sure I have bitched about some things at Disney (MiM's comes to mind right now) but it was in a way, trying to be positive (Wallaby was there with me for that one).

I get too much joy is dealing with the great guests to let these things bother me.

This reminds me of a Barenaked Ladies concert I went to and the drummer was complaining about the sushi place he went to for lunch, so when the band was doing their improv rap thing, Steven (heavier guy with glasses, singer) goes something like this "We went to this concert and all the drummer did was whine about his lunch, what is this Stupid Whiny Drummer?!?" I think I have it on mp3 somewhere. Now I need to find it...
