A question...

Hello! I've been lurking here for a while and am debating asking a question that I don't want to be classified later as a SG. :)
At one time, I had heard that tipping castmembers isn't necessary, and in some cases frowned upon. That Walt didn't want guests to recieve "extra-special" treatment because they paid for it.
I know to tip my waiters and waitresses. I have stopped on several occations and let cast members know how much I apprieciate them and have even stopped at the main guest services desk at each park and let them know how much the CMs have made our day special.
So...here is my question. Housekeeping at the resorts, do they get tipped? I've heard several versions of both yes and no from different discussion boards. I have even heard that if housekeeping does get tips they have to turn them over to charity. Please help!!! I'm so confused on this topic I don't know which direction is up. LOL
Thank you for your responses!

Good question, I usually tip housekeepers, but I didn't know this was a question... And everyone here should know how much I hate charities, so I don't want my money going there! :D: But seriously, what is the right answer to this, anybody know?

I would say that Housekeeping (or Mousekeeping?) would be one of those occasions where you do tip. It's a hotel, and if you would tip while at a Hilton, Marriott or wherever, then you should tip. Besides, I've stayed at some VERY nice hotels while traveling for work, and not once did I get a towel animal :D:

EWWW....good lord I hope I dont find one of those.
My general rule of thumb on tipping hotel/motel maid service...If we are staying more then one nite, you get a tip...if the room is clean(and I mean smells good, no nasty stuff on floors, etc) even if one nite, you get a tip...if you go out of your way to make my stay better, you get a tip. I tip what I can afford at the time (Hey Jethro, toss that there shampoo in your knapsack so's we can take it with us) but I do try to give at least $1 per person in the room per nite. I even have cute little envelopes made up(in English only--you cant read it you dont get it

) for our upcoming trip.
Very good question on where it goes. I would think, that there is no way for the upper management to track exactly how much each Mousekeeper is getting. Since there are (hopefully) no cameras in the rooms, they would not know if they get a tip or not. Do they make them empty out their pockets at the end of their shifts.? It might be interesting to find out the answer to the question.

Make sure it's under 3 oz otherwise you can't carry it on the plane. I'd have to have you have to lose 18 stolen bottles of shampoo due to a technicality :p: ;) :D:

They are not stolen...We paid out the nose for each and every one. Besides, Granny gets airsick so we are just strapping her rocker on top of the car and rollin' on down the highway.

I generally agree with the housekeeping tipping practices that have been mentioned above...but I also have witnessed raging battles on other boards over whether or not one is supposed to tip housekeeping specifically at Disney.
I would love to hear from a castmember as to what the rules are for the housekeeping CMs getting/accepting tips.
They certainly deserve them, but if they are not allowed to keep them, I would like to do something that might be more meaningful to the CM that has made my trip all that much more magical.
I wouldn't dare bring this topic up on board x. I would immediately be branded a lesser being and a total cheapskate.

Why does Granny's rocker have mouse ears carved in the design and have a label "Property of WDW" on it?

You must be mistaking the rocker with the wheelchair that is tied to the back of the jalopy.
