In all actuality, the number of stroller/property thefts that occur (or at least reported) are much lower than even I even expected in my area. The most commonly 'stolen' is the empty single rental with no nametag (Makes you wonder how they got it in the first place, since all replacement strollers are supposed to have a nametag to prevent the loss again). Second are the cheap empty umbrella strollers with no names written anywhere on em. and most are cases of mistaken identity.

Regarding Knott's security--you're right, the managment decided they didn't want to obey the law and go through all the expensise, etc. of making their security guards are actually licensed by the state, so they changed their shoulder patches to "Safety Patrol". Knott's has never been incompliance with California law ever since Cedar Fair took it over from the Knott family.

They get slaps on the wrist whenever people get sick eating at the Chicken Dinner Restaurant, none of their eateries can pass a health inspection to save themselves, and when DOSH and OSHA are in the park, they get taken to the better maintained rides in the park and I would not be surprised if they were given bribes to keep the place open. There are two rides I know of that are literally falling apart. Security only does its job if they are trying to avoid a lawsuit, which is what happened when I had a guest attack me one time.

I can't wait to see that hellhole bite it big.

Same for our area, which is certainly the biggest stroller hell in the west. Last night I spent half an hour dealing with a lost stroller that turned out to be RIGHT THERE, just missing the nametag (why do people take them out? wtf?). I pretty much assumed that we'd moved the stroller since it was in a bad spot, but it just got surrounded and hidden by more SG strollers out of our control.

The security guy was nice about it though, and he was right to wait until after the parade before doing anything and just chill.

I don't know that this really qualifies them as "stupid", but here goes:

My first CP I had a very bad experience at the AMC at DTD. A bunch of us went to a late show and nobody would walk me back to my car. There were several teens hanging out, which made me uncomfortable. My car was pretty far away, and as I'm walking a large SUV with four guys heading towards the exit flips a u-turn and starts following me. I saw my car and ran, the SUV speeding up behind me. We reached the car at the same time. They opened their doors as I jumped in and locked mine. They closed theirs and sped off. I do not blame security, I saw them patrolling as I was on my way and it is a big lot.

Fast forward to a year later on my second CP. I was at DTD Marketplace and it was after dark. I am now decidedly nervous about walking to my car by myself and asked for a security escort. Apparently this has never been done before and they were quite confused. They were nice enough about it once they figured out what they were doing. The guard asked me why I wanted an escort and I explained what had happened the year before. I'm just amazed that they would find it odd that a single (very short) woman would want an escort to her car after dark.

Yikes! I would always have Security escort me to my car after dark...especially these days. Did you report the first incident? It might help to report these incidents and they might beef up security or tell Security they need to accompany females to cars after dark. Heck, nwadays, I even watch all around me during the day. Here in Denver,we have had several incidents of females being snatched right in broadaylight out of grocery store parking lots. Nasty business!

I used to go everywhere alone, but back a few years ago, I was pretty street smart for the 1970's and 1980's, but this is a whole new world...Back then anyone who messed with me got a knee in the nutz and I could do it...then. Nowadays I am not in shape anymore and I don't take any chances. I am not in my 20's or 30's and buff from working out and I don't know if I could take down someone like I used to. I suppose if my menopause kicked in and I was sweatin' for a fight, I would probably make a wouldbe attacker poop their pants.

One of the best and strongest things you have is your voice. SCREAM as loud as you can, and say whatever you need to if if someone attacks. You can scream "Attack!" "Murder!" "Help!" whatever comes to your mind, but do it very loud and shrill! You should cary a police whistle on your key chain. Those suckers are loud! Do you carry a small can of pepper spray or mace with you in your purse or backpack? Another very useful tool. A woman CANNOT take too many precautions alone. If you can find a good self defense class, (sometiems the police dept actually sponsors them) sign up! You will get some very valuable information and tools and manuvers that you can use.
USE COMMON SENSE, sounds like that is what you did when you asked a guard to walk you.
Above all, KNOW YOUR OWN LIMITATIONS!!!!! That is key to protection. GET the Security to walk you to your car. That is a BIG deterrant. I would go to HR and tell them of what happened, even now. It will alert them to the fact that their parking lots are not as safe as they could be. No place really is. But you could stop someone else from being pursued or attacked.

I was in San Francisco one night back in the 1970's and I was alone in the car, driving home and I noticed a car with 4 men in it following me. They followed me for 40 miles to the east bay area!!!! I knew exactly what to do. I went to the nearest town I was familier with and drove straight to the Police Station. They drove away really quickly but not before I got their license plate number by simply keeping my eyes on the road and every once in a while checking the rear view to get the digits. Of course I had 40 miles of freeway to do it. When we got into town I was able to get it down at stoplights. Now what was really scary, was in town I HAD to stop at stoplights. It was late, about 2AM and there were a few cars out, but not many. At one stoplight, they were behind me. I shoulda blown the light and got pulled over THAT would have been smart. But I waited for the light because there were other cars at the intersection. The guy on the passenger side got out of the car and came up to my driver's door and tried to open it. At that point, I screamed at him to leave me alone and took off through the light and drove straight to the Police Station. They followed, but roared away when they saw me turn into the Police Station parking Lot.

Again, just use common sense and know your own limitations. Get the security guard and do tell HR about what happened. They NEED to know about it. They might not find it odd to escort a woman to their car if they hear of this. If they never hear of anything happening, then it gives them reason to be complacent about walking women to their cars, because they don't have it on record that there WAS an incident. They think everything is okay and the Pixie Dust is working even in the Parking Lot! They need a reality check! The more that get reported gives them pause to think about providing the security.

I actually saw a news report on this a couple years ago. They said a study was done and yelling any of the 3 things you listed above rarely brought people over because they didn't want to be the witness to anything and have to deal with it. The report said the one thing to always yell when in danger is "FIRE" because for some reason, everyone will come running to watch something on fire. Says something about this country.

I have always read the same thing bout yelling FIRE. From what I understand, if you yell HELP, it means that the person hearing you is not in immediate harm and may have to somehow "get involved" so they tend to ignore it
But if you yell FIRE, it means that bystanders may be in for some personal harm to their bodies so they will be willing to save their own butts.
