New Here -- Hopefully not an SG!

Post by EmptyCinema » Mon May 28, 2007 11:38 pm

Hi Everyone!

I've been reading SGT on and off for a couple of months and finally decided to join.

First, a bit about me and my background with Disney: I'm a 22 yo college student in Georgia studying Computer Science. I went to WDW once as a kid, but my love for the parks really came about when my Girlfriend took me there for New Year's one year. We've since been back twice more and are going again next weekend for flower & garden and SWW. We're both AP holders, but I'm hoping (and thinking) we haven't done anything to get mentioned on here. :)

First off, I'd like to thank the CMs: current, former, and future. Without you and your positive attitudes on-stage, I would have no desire to visit the parks. I've had some awesome CM interaction before, and have taken the time twice to stop by City Hall and fill out one of those cards to commend a CM. Unfortunately, we've also had to go to guest relations with a less positive comment about a CM before (but that's a whole different story).

I currently work in technical support, so I think I can say I understand a few of the issues you all have to deal with: people who don't listen, read, or understand. When I'm in the parks, I have to say my biggest frustration is guests with wheels: heelies (sp?), ignorant ECV drivers, ignorant stroller-pushers (who thought it a good idea to let the KIDS push each other in the strollers?) and so forth.

Once I graduate, I'd like to have an opportunity to come work at Walt Disney World. Since my specialty is in embedded computer systems, I'd love to work in whichever department is responsible for ride control systems. (Some have said it's Imagineering, others have told me there is a separate department.) I love computers, and I'd love to be able to use that to bring more of the magic to the guests.

Again, thanks for all you guys do for the guests. You don't get paid anything near what you should for putting up with it all.

Well, this seems to be the proper place for this post, after lurking for a couple years and finally joining a few months ago.
Thank you, Cast Members one and all. My daughter and I have been fortunate enough to travel to WDW perhaps a dozen times over the past decade or so. Of course, we love the attractions, the fireworks, even the food! But it is honestly the CMs that keep us coming back. Never--not even once--in all those visits have we ever encountered anyone employed by WDW who was anything but gracious, friendly, professional and unfailingly helpful.
We've enjoyed every encouter with CMs from tour guides to characters to those who keep everyone happy pre-parade to the folks who keep everything so clean and those who get us where we're going safely and efficiently. We are simply amazed at the level of professionalism and courtesy you folks display, under all kinds of circumstances and for not much money.
Disney CMs are the reason she and I just finally stopped bothering wasting money and time at other parks or local vacation spots. It's worth it to save up and enjoy ourselves for a week here and there instead of simply being disappointed at another venue...because you have set the bar so high.
A few years ago we started our own 'tradition,' in addition (of course) to always thanking CMs personally and with letters to management when we return home. Whenever we leave one of the parks or resorts or other WDW areas, we stop at Guest Services (or other appropriate spot) and thank the CM on behalf of all the CMs for making our day or stay so enjoyable. It's the least we can do to make you folks smile, too.
By the way, I appreciate all you do even more after reading this forum. Taking tours such as Backstage Magic never spoiled a moment of the magic, and knowing the CMs are totally human (and not audio-animatrons) actually makes the trip to WDW even better.
My conversation about the architecture of World Showcase was every bit as informative with the CM tour guide as it was when I asked a custodial CM a question. Man, all of you really know your stuff.
My daughter picked up some great information on colleges and the application process from a wonderful CM while we were waiting for SpectroMagic to begin.
Peter Pan is the reason we still take the Family Magic Tour every visit (and she's 17). He is simply enchanting. And hilarious!
I have so many more stories...maybe I'll post them one at a time whenever you CMs seem to need someone to sprinkle a little pixie dust on you for a change. Thank you so much. If all goes well, we'll see you again in August. (...when we travel south to visit a few of those colleges that CM recommended!)

P.S.--I've sworn off those other lame chatboards because they really are controlled by people who have chosen to never be happy. Their loss.

I'll pop in here then too, if I may? I'm a not only a guest, but a local!

Surely, I hope not a stupid local guest! :D:

I visit WDW on a regular basis, trying to get there at least once a weekend. Sometimes I drop by after work, but not so often in the summer. Too hot!

I too wish to thank each dedicated CM "out there" for all the help and assistance I've received over these many years. I've had any number of wonderful interactions with CMs.

I must admit, I've seen far too many SGs too. Some of those folks really make you shake your head (if not your fist)! :o:

I've read here for some time and thought it about time I registered, so here I am.

Looking forward to getting to know members here and trade SG stories.

OH! And if you EVER see me do an SG stunt, toss me outa' da' park! :p:

One more new person to add to the mix. Thanks to all the CM's who work so hard. I try my best to not be a SG and put those I see in their place.

I thought drinking way too much was a requirement before posting on SGT.

I am a jabberjaw and thus have posted a lot here, way too much according to some avians and humanoids.

Except for cough syrup I have not had food or drink recently. The last time was at Downtown Disney where I tossed that boozed soaked food into the bushes. I am a no booze person for all of my life.

Drinking and eating stuff with alcohol is not necessary to post here but in some cases may make the post more coherent. I would not doubt someone will post that my posting has led them to drinking heavily
