Help me make sense out of the rediculus

 What is wrong with people? I work on the monorails now, and a few nights ago I was working at the MK Express side during what we laughingly refer to as the Pre-exit. This is when half the park leaves right after the first Spectro parade, before the Fireworks.
 Anyway, there are several wheelchairs waiting to board the next train when a group of teens and their parents com up behind them. The train pulls into the station and as I pull out the ramp so that the chairs can be loaded, but in order to do that the chairs had to move aside. As the doors open opened, and before I could drop the ramp, the group of teens pushed the other group aside and boarded, filling the car.
 Then, here's the kicker. when I told them that they had to leave the car and make room for the chairs, the Adult told me to F--k off and find another car. Then, when I threatoned to call security, the guy told me that if I did he and his brother wold kick my ass before that could get there. Now I am no weakling by any streach of the imagination, But I don't feel like loosing my job, so I waved the train clear then radioed the driver to hold for security at base. That was where I started to wonder. Is the world getting ruder, or is it just guests at Disney.

Unbelievable story, Dylan. First of all, I think you did the right thing to let it pass..you're better than me. Secondly, it’s the entire world. A colleague of mine observed that if we wanted to expel a student from school, we needed all but the Secret Service as backup, because many parents have a prejudice in favor of their child, regardless of what they did, even if it was, for example, a 2nd offence drug possession/distribution. Once someone has paid to attend a school or enter a theme park, they figure can do whatever they want.

When I think about it, being part of an experience such as Disney World used to be a sort of rare privilege. Now that we’re in the "experience economy", the experience itself is just another level of economic offering with which people feel they can do whatever they want, just as they would with something else they paid for. It's a theory to explain the behavior, at least.

A coach in one of the local junior highs saw a large kid punching smaller kids. The coach told him to stop it and after a little back and forth the kid punched the coach. The coach later said he'd take one for the school and did. The kid threw a second punch and the coach kicked his ass.

The school district freaked out and "retired" the coach. The coach went public and after the principal and district superintendent were thoroughly trashed in the press and by the majority of the parents, the coach was magically "unretired."

You definitely did the right thing. One of the guide lines in our security hand-book is "Don't be a hero. There's safety in numbers".
Give Security a GOOD description, and let them handle it. I know it sounds 'chicken-shit, but unless you know damn well you could kick their ass (and get busted for assault).oh well.
Sad to say,the world is becoming full of MF MFs. :(

I think it was brilliant on the SG's parts to say something like that. I mean, of course you can't just close the doors like that, THEN call security. Eh, whatever. I think you handled that quite well.

Driver_ dylan, our world is becoming much ruder, more selfish, horribly "Me" centered, & totally impatient - as you experienced. You mentally took charge of your CM position & handled this incident in the best way possible. As darph stated well; "Don't be a hero." There are so many heros at Disney - who have been written up or termed. Your call was the most intelligent. :trophy: :hi5:

You did the right thing by clearing the station. By doing so you gave security plenty of time to be there to whisk the bad guests away and kept peace at your station. It gave the bad guests time to cool down and maybe not be so aggressive with security. Your actions saved a lot of guests from having to hear cussing and fighting beyond the intial reaction.

I do not know if people are ruder today but do know that there always will be bullies who believe they can intimidate others into doing what they want. I would have love to have seen their faces when security escorted them out of the park especially after they thought they had won.

Dang...wish there could be a jacka$$ detector that people had to pass thru to be allowed in. Sorry U had to subjected to that kind of abuse, but I applaud your self discipline in not knocking that jerk's block off!!

I'm also curious to hear what (sigh) if anything happened with security on this. How is security BTW when it comes to something like this? Are they able to respond quickly enough to be there when SG tries to bolt?

96 more days till I come to your stomping grounds, and i promise to be good and stop taking my stupid pills at least a week before!

I'd have had your back :)

Actually, when we visit, if I do hear anyone threaten a CM, I'll let the CM (and the perp) know loud and clear that they have a witness who will back them 100% in dealing with security and law enforcement. Hopefully I won't have to, but with the way the world is going who knows...
