I have a question, many times i see chosen families in the opening park parades, how are they chosen? and the ones in the parades during the daytime, how are they chosen? thank you all for your replies.

It depends on the parade. At Disneyland during one parade the CMs would go around asking people if they wanted to be in the parade. You got to wear a stupid animal hat and some dressed in tutus. It was random and I never saw any indication they were going after a type of person. I even seen a person in a wheelchair in the parade.

DLRDan, you are completely correct. :) Random selection for both parades. Some days maybe there is a MAW family or other guests who are invited due to special circumstances but random 98% of the time.

That's true because I have been asked a few times. Must be my weird clothes or something. Always said no though. Me, wear a pink tutu? :p: Gah!

Are you talking about the "Parade Of The Stars, LDC? For the POTS, they used to around asking guests to be in the parade with a big double decker bus with the sign, "Guest Performers" I saw them "rehearsing" once before the parade.

What others have written about the new "parades by committee" is (I presume) accurate.
OTOH, when a parade has just one or two families serving as "grand marshalls", these families are selected very carefully. I know the folks who choose for the Magic Kingdom, and asked one once what their guidelines were for selection. His reply was most interesting:
"Mostly I look for families who are excited to be in the Park. That's the main thing, excitement. After all, not just everyone can smile and wave for the length of the parade route (cough-Nancy Kerrigan-cough). I don't have quotas for single-parent families or ethnic groups, but I do track them and occasionally I compare my selections to the demographics of Park guests. If I find I'm leaning one way a bit far, I try to make gentle adjustments. In the final analysis though, I go by instinct. I guess that if they're still letting me do this after twelve years, they must be fairly satisfied with my instincts."
And no, I won't even give his first name here -- he has enough trouble from folks asking as it is. He does get turned down at times. He also chooses two families in case one doesn't make it back for the parade.
The only other way to get into a parade is through the PR department. Sports stars, politicians, folks like that can and do bump ordinary people at times, but the frequency seems to be about once/month.

At any audience participation that I have seen it is usually the happy people who are having a good time that are chosen. Who wants someone on stage or in a parade that is frowning and grumpy. The last time I was chosen for a stage thing was during a magic show at the Golden Horseshoe that did not last long. I had to check the straight jacket and cinched it to tight, he did squeak.
