The Walt Disney Company is looking to expand its empire with some "blue sky concepts". Jay Rasulo, chairman of Disney's Parks and Resorts announced that Disney would like to create smaller theme parks and stand alone hotels as well as dining, retail and entertainment centers.
These centers would mostly be located in urban areas that families already travel to. They feel it would appeal to families with younger children who aren't quite ready to go to a Disney Theme Park. Another thought is to have various centers like the Downtown Disneyland area with high-end stores, dining and entertainment.
The Disney Company is also looking into "a smaller, deeply immersive park" that would have more interactive experiences but with higher prices. The water parks may also see some growth, as well as the Disney Cruise Line.
These ideas will not be put forth unless the selected business would yield a high return on invested capital, Rasulo said.
Soon there will be a Planet Disney or Space Station Disney for all of us to vacation at as well..
