Stupid Guest Tricks

Heelys, the maker of the shoe with a built-in skate, went public today. That indicates a substainable product which means you guys in the parks will be faced with them for some time to come. :(

Oh Great. Sometime kids ride those damn things in the furiture store where I work. Nothing like a semi-stable kid,cruising around glass top cocktail tables. I'll ask them (politly) not to ride them,15 secs later I'll ask them 'again',telling them "Theres not much that you can hurt,but alot a of stuff can 'hurt' you". I'm also trying to save myself a s-load of paperwork.

I think those things should be banned - period. Schools don't allow them. Why do parents think that they should be allowed elsewhere (other than your own neighborhood with you supervising) if your kid can't even wear them to school? Main Gate CM's have to escort anyone with a skateboard or bike from tent to tent through the Esplinade. Heelys aren't allowed, but same as the furniture store - the CM's tell the kid and 30 seconds later, they're on the wheels again.

The problem that I see is that the people who use them, i.e. grade school age kids, haven't got fully developed brains/common sense. They don't think about how fast they are going, they don't look to see if anyone is in the way, and they haven't got the experience to know their own limitations nor think about the possibilities of anything going wrong. I'm sure that eventually there's going to be a lawsuit involving the stupid things. BTW, I'm amongst those categorized as a mean mom/auntie for not buying them. Too bad kids. Use your roller blades after school - that's it.

If I see a kid rolling around with 'em in on of my non-carpeted stores or outside, and I'm not stuck behind a register with a line that should have a sign posted saying "30 minutes from this point," I stop the kid and tell them to take the wheels out. Some comply, some give me a stupid line about needing a special tool (despite the manufacturer saying that it can be done with one's thumbs), and a handful have a fit.

One time, I told a girl she had to take the wheels out, and she started to do it. The (presumably) adult (presumably) female with her yelled at me, saying "We're not taking the fucking wheels out. That's bullshit!" and stormed out of the store.

Heelys went IPO yesterday?!?!?

DAMN! Just got hit in WAMU Thurs. by a pre teen sucking on a lollypop while messing with her IPod & talking to her mom. Neither had the class to say a word to me. :twisted: hobie, plz don't doom post pre weekend. :D:

I think the question is, who is going to sue whom? Common sense might dictate that if Johnny smashed into a glass table and sliced his arm open, mommy would sue the store. And the store should sue the manufacturer of the effing heelys. :twisted:

The sad part is,mom/and or dad,would be screaming at 'me'. Sad to say ,I'd be 'totally' blunt. "Hey,I didn't buy him/her the damn things". Shit,a couple of weeks ago this family was in the store. Their son was,how shall I say.... 'special'. Next thing I see is this kid is jumping over furniture like a flippin deer. He missed 2 glass tables by inches. I said out loud,"Please coral him". His parents,AND the salesman,gave me a dirty look.
