Left or right?

One afternoon I was picking up strollers left by the Newsstand side of the main entrance when a woman approached me with her prepaid stroller voucher. I sent her to the stroller shop as we're supposed to do. She replied, "well they told me it was on the right side as you go in." I answered, "That's the right side over there, this is the left side."
My friend shared a similar story: at the guide stands right inside the main entrance, the postcard racks are a few feet from the stand itself. A woman asked my friend how much postcards were. He told her the ones she was looking at were $1.50, and the ones to her left were 50 cents. They were both looking at the postcard rack from the same side, so his left was also her left. She started looking to her right for the 50 cent postcards when my friend pointed her in the correct direction, and she said, "oh, your left."
I can't believe we're telling our adult guests the difference between left and right.
