Watch, they'll change the status of Pluto. Lots cheaper than new text books & maps. God forbid we ever spend money on "real" education & actually update our learning materials. :(

I think my high school textbooks still had a geocentric model...

I currently found this on the portal:

Despite Planetary Downgrade, Pluto is Still Disney's 'Dog Star'
In reaction to news today that Pluto was demoted to the status of "dwarf planet," the Seven Dwarfs issued their own short statement:
"Although we think it's DOPEY that Pluto has been downgraded to a dwarf planet, which has made some people GRUMPY and others just SLEEPY, we are not BASHFUL in saying we would be HAPPY if Disney's Pluto would join us as an 8th dwarf. We think this is just what the DOC ordered and is nothing to SNEEZE at."
As Mickey Mouse's faithful companion, Pluto made his debut in 1930 – the same year that scientists discovered what they believed was a ninth planet. Said a white-gloved, yellow-shoed source close to Disney's top dog, "I think the whole thing is goofy. Pluto has never been interested in astronomy before, other than maybe an occasional howl at the moon."

Bad enough scientists can't seem to make up their minds about what's good for us or not, now they have to pick on a planet that's too far away to defend itself! I say if it goes around the sun in a regular orbit, it's a planet. So there! It's sad that scientists seem to have too much time on their hands and then waste it on a silly argument about a planet.... Of course, my textbooks on the solar system said that Jupiter had 12 moons, Saturn had 9 moons, and Pluto had no moons. Since then, Jupiter has added I think 4 moons, Saturn I believe has added 3, and Pluto has added 1, but I think I may have heard they found another one. But back then, my geography textbooks said that Vietnam was two countries, Yugoslavia was one country, and Pakistan was two countries on either side of India. And Latvia, Estonia and all those other former satellite countries of the Soviet Union weren't countries anymore. In high school, one of our girls' P.E. teachers was from Latvia, she and her parents had escaped when she was a baby. How the world has changed....

In that case there are a couple of million planets in our solar system.
Frankly, I think they made the right decision. Pluto is no more a planet than Halley's Comet.
