Dumb ECV guests

A few weeks ago we had a guest who demanded to see our manager about his ECV. He claimed that he didn't know that he could take the ECV into atttractions and was thus not able to go on any attractions with his family until near the end of his day. Basically he was pissed off because he claimed he wasn't able to enjoy the park with his family and wanted a full refund for his ECV and park admission.
I had to go backstage when I heard this because i couldn't contain my laughter any more.

Oh i'm sure he enjoyed his day, nipping at everyone's heels that were in his way.

I started this thread about 2 years ago and it died shortly after. But after a discussion on another thread I thought I'd bring it back. So anyone (Stores, Attractions, Foods, Custodial, whoever), please feel free use this thread to share ECV SGTs.
This is actually a stupid CM trick that resulted in ECV SGTs. We used to get so many complaints because the people in the phone room (aka City Hall/Guest Relations) would tell anyone who called DLR that we never ran out of ECVs. I had to explain to so many people the simple concept of limited supply. Sometimes I would go so far as to point out that it says in the guide map that "limited quantities of wheelchairs and ECVs are available" with an emphasis on LIMITED. Of course we always complained to City Hall and we still got those guest complaints.

I hate it when they come into my stores because they always run into the fixtures (which are all on wheels) and they hit them so hard that the fixtures move and the merchandise goes flying. Just last night I watched this lady in their personal ECV go burning through the Star Trader looking for the Star Tours exit. Her daughter was playing "Clean-up" behind her. Most of them think that they have the right-of-way because they have wheels. They also get mad because when they pull up to the counter, they can't reach the counter because of the front wheel. They get all frustrated and then they get snippy with us. Grrr to them!!!

I see that quite often. Most of them don't seem contrite about it either. They think their electric vehicle can squeeze into places it doesn't have the clearance for, in a store, and the fixtures on casters move out of their original positions. It is rather annoying. I'm just waiting for the day one of them runs over my foot. It's bound to happen sooner or later.

I forgot to mention this, but please do not use this thread to bash the disabled. Not all disabled guests are stupid ECV guests. I have had quite a few disabled guests complain to me about stupid ECV guests.
I can't say enough how much I hated ECV/WC fakers on days when we ran out of ECVs or even WCs and forced legitimately disabled and/or elderly guests to wait or go without an ECV or WC.
I've had my foot run over several times by ECVs, and I've also dropped them on my foot. Getting run over by the rear wheels hurts a lot more than by the front wheels. I almost had my shin bone broken on Christmas Day 2002 by someone who didn't know how to put it in reverse. She first hit my foot, stopped on my foot, then went forward again.

Lost, were you in Greetings, Hollywood, last March when this huge lady zoomed in on her ECV & took out 4 double rows of cups & all the key chains? She came within inches of my left foot. I just stood amid the damage with a zoned out stare. Really thought there had ben an earthquake @ first. Finally went BOH & told stock. R, J, H, & Derrick came out not believing my story. They each went pale. I laughed so hard as R, H & Derrick were muttering swear words in Spanish. Took us hrs. to recover poor Hollywood. The ECVer saw the damage as she merrily drove into Boulevard & out the door. Not one word of apology nor asking if she should pay for broken items. Was truly an amazing SGT!

SRT_GB, don't think one of us on this site would ever post a negative abt the disabled. We have too much class & really care abt these guests. I'd rather have a store filled with disabled guests than one ECVer who feels the need to make everyone clear the isles. Many of them have a Mosses Complex. "Move, I'm parting the Red Sea."

If I came across that way at all, then I apologize. I have had quite a few guests in ECV's who have been politeness itself, but every once in awhile, you get the oblivious guest. I have even heard one of the drivers of those things say they didn't know how to properly use the reverse... which bothered me quite frankly.

No, I don't think I was. It was either before I came in for the night, or it was on one of my days off. Oddly, this is the first I've heard about it... And I was BOH that whole month... it was before I managed to change my preferences I guess. I suppose I could have also been in another location that night....

We had a similar problem at Main Street Station at MK -- merchandise cast were telling guests they could avoid the stairs by rolling their strollers/wheelchairs/ECVs up the exit ramp. *Not* a safe behavior at that station.
Merchandise management was a textbook case of "Whatever!", and refused to even let us speak to their cast members about the problems this caused.
Our final solution was to agree with the guests, then ask them for their "Exit Entry Pass". When they didn't have one, we directed them back to the merchandise location to get one. :twisted:
When merchandise cast complained, we were just, "Whatever!"
