From today's edition of The Onion (story is in the right-hand column, under "National News Highlights"):
Anaheim, CA—Having completed the first month of his summer job cleaning restrooms at Disneyland, Andrew Peterman, 17, made a secret promise to himself that if and when he ever wins the Superbowl, he will not be going to Disneyland.
Granted he would have comps & all, but once a CM has been in Custodial I don't think those roots are ever forgotten. The scars are too deep. Custodial is a thankless job! These hard working CMs are almost invisible to guests, other dept. CMs, managers, & top brass who totally rely on Custodial's backbreaking efforts to keep both parks spotless as they kindly hand out maps to the stupids. Was at ToT when walking past the ride pic view area I saw a huge popcorn spill. This is a safety hazard & poor show. Told my lead I'd be right back as I needed to clean up a dry spill. The lead looked at me in shock, laughed & said: "Why would you want to clean that mess up? I'll call Custodial. Cleaning up is their job." I was so pissed at this "Holier than thou attitude." Sneaked over & cleaned the spill cuz it was very hot & Custodial had far more pressing problems than a dry spill at ToT. Ok, tirade over. Soap box back in corner.

Well if it makes you feel any better, I appreciate the custodial CMs in my area and I don't think I've ever called them for a dry spill unless I couldn't find a broom and pan, heck I've even cleaned up some types of wet spills if
I had a package of pro towels handy and it wouldn't be sticky afterwards. The only thing I insist on call custodial for is the stuff I don't have the equipment to clean up properly, like bodily fluid type spills and all those sticky ice creams, sodas, etc etc...

My apologies for assuming everyone knew about The Onion. It's satire only -- all the stories are entirely made up for the humor, including this one. I should've said something.

True Story Time.

I once knew a CM who called custodial to deal with a "protein spill"... when they arrived, they were rather put out to discover the "Protein Spill" was nothing more than popcorn. His reaction: "Well, popcorn is a protein, right?"

Sigh.... Here's your sign.

Picture would be great wallpaper in all breakrooms. Not only fun to look at, it could cover a few cracks & filth smudges for us. ]

I have heard Custodial is a thankless job, however when I get the chance to see someone from Custodial at Disneyland I thank them even if they're sweeping during the times where I am and the guests are all outside watching some parade or fireworks show... I know it may make their day, but I figure they're taken for granted, and I just want to sweeten the pot as it were, by saying thank you, even if no one else will.

I never realized they were taken for granted that badly. I'd always smile and say "thank you" whenever they'd come by and sweep around my cart where I couldn't reach. And I'd pick up a short convo if it was a slow day. Was I really that oblivious to the fact that not all the other cast members are so nice to Custodial? ... I guess I'm friendly without realizing it. :p:
