Fresh Start (was: OG From Hell)

Some of you may have noticed that the OG From Hell thread stopped rather abruptly. Some may even have noticed that it was locked. Sorry.

It seems one of us thought it funny enough to print and bring to work. Yup, you guessed it, it landed on the desk of the training manager who promptly went even *more* ballistic. :rocket:

Of course, being as posting here was done off-property and off-clock, there wasn't a thing he could do about it -- officially -- which ticked him off even more.

Finally, the same week I was made a union shop steward, which put even more pressure on the situation. Clearly, things were overdue to blow up, and blow they did.

My area manager couldn't reprimand, force transfer, or fire me. What he did instead was to eliminate one of my two roles. That's right, Main Street no longer has a Show Quality program!

So now I faced three challenges:

1. A new OG that management acknowledged was defective. I had submitted a 14-page list of problems with it, including five I considered safety hazards.

2. A GSM who wanted me fired in the worst way, with a history of no-call/no-show meetings, and with a habit of badmouthing folks behind their backs.

3. An area manager who would rather cripple an important program than tolerate me. He even sent a message through another GSM that I was, "No longer welcome in Main Street!" :dropmouth

One of these I could have handled. Two of these I could probably have handled with the backing of my Union. Three of these... well, when the handwriting on the wall is being done with a chainsaw.... :chainsaw:

Long story short, after a 20-minute audition, a two-day wait, and a 30-minute audition, I'm now a WDW hotel concierge, and shouldn't have to go back to Main Street again except as a guest.

I'll be a bit scarce around here for the next month as a result, since training is done full-time. (I'm CR.) Don't take it personally.

I'm already feeling much better about the situation, despite having to leave my much-loved trains and the great cast I've spent the past seven years working with there. :locomotiv

I've got a batch of new skills to learn, a chance to use my knowledge of the resort... and air conditioning all summer!

Oh, and if a certain GSM is reading this, let me say only :waves:

Sorry about your situation, Zazu, but I bet you'll be great in the new position. And, if the other hotel stories posted here are any indication, you'll still have a front-row seat for many more stupid guests and their never-ending boneheadedness. Do you know which resort you will be at?

Best wishes in your new role, and hope to see you posting here again soon.

Good Luck Zazu. Pretty sure you will have lots of stories to entertain us with when you get back.

So sorry you had to leave your beloved trains. In the long run though, you will come out the winner. As for your malevolent managers, they will get what is coming to them.
Hey there's always model railroading. :)

I'm so sad! I was looking forward to meeting you in September. I wanted to start my friend's first day at the Magic Kingdom on the train and thought it would be cool if you were on board. Oh well. Good luck in your new role.

Good point! And one not lost on me. I leave tomorrow for the National Model Railroad Convention in Philadelphia!!!

Don't worry, I'm taking my laptop so I can keep up with all the stupids.

This is still quite possible, so long as I'm not working that morning. Drop me a note and maybe we can get together anyway.

Who knows? Depending on where you stay, I might just be checking you in!

You'll be in Philly? Whereabouts are you staying ? I live close enough to Philly, that I could take a train to the Convention Center, if you wanted to meet up.

:)

Hey Zazu, I'm sorry to hear this :(
Let us know what resort you'll be at. It's not propable I'll be staying there during my next WDW visit, but that doesn't mean that I can't come and say Hi and drop off some extra chocolates!

I wish you all the best with the new job. It's Main Street's loss.
